You can already do that. You just use the mining pick to pick up an item and you can get crafting recipes from the carpenter to make different furniture sets or collect them from town rank or if you have the skills for picking up stuff randomly with your collecting. To place an item in your home, rotate to the item in your inventory and you will see its ghost until you place it down. Also, some items can rotate. You can see it at the bottom-left of your screen when they are highlighted.
