Issue with losing animal products (eggs/milk) when getting beads

Hi y'all! I'm really enjoying this game and I think it's wonderful, but I noticed an issue. When I go to pet my farm animals (chickens/cows/ducks) and they give me the shiny beads, the products I collected before (eggs/milk) suddenly disappear from my hotbar. Is this a normal feature in the game or is it just a bug? And if so, has anyone else encountered it? I'm trying to figure it out. :(

you're accidentally feeding them milk and eggs. when you first click your animals it will always feed first before petting

I wish there was a way to lock feeding animals anything other than the feed items, too often I'll pick up an egg or something and I'll accidentally feed them the egg when I mean to pet them.
