Fields of Mistria

Fields of Mistria

How would you rate the completeness of the game?
Given that FoM is high up on the steam deck charts, selling like mad, racking up play hours etc. people are clearly having a blast, but...

How EA does it feel? How obvious are the holes, the missing content, the incomplete features? Is it essentially a done game which will be getting free dlc-tier updates prior to 1.0, or is it an active construction site with the dust showing? Or somewhere in between?

Curious to take the temperature of the user base on this.

I'm guessing it's got about 1/3 of the story and content in it. What is there plays well, but you will run into limits on friendship and town levels and mine levels etc.

It truly is "earliest of Early Access" at this point—I hope this is, at the absolute most, 15-20% of what's going to be in the actual 1.0 game. Any less would feel undercooked. Maybe not Coral Island 1.0 undercooked, but still undercooked. They've got a lot of work to do.

You will know in about 5 minutes of playing whether you don't like the game or you will absolutely love it. I can't imagine this being 14 dollars on full release so buy it and try it, and get a refund if you don't like it. The game is meant to have about 40 hours of solid gameplay and you can get to 4/10 hearts with everyone.

As to how EA it feels, it doesn't until towards the end of the first year. It does feel like a love letter to other farming/town improvement games though and they focused heavily on QOL elements instead of adding them in later.

I am quite in love with it in its current state, especially at a $14 purchase.
I already poured 65+ hours.

65 hrs? try 100+ hrs..that's me...honestly the farming, fishing and mining are so fun that i can't stop playing..my goal now is just hoarding ingredients, money, recipes etc..and maybe finish the museum...

I'd give it a solid 30%. Given that it seems like we're given access to what appears to be half of the main content (halfway through the mines, halfway through friendship categories, etc) it's safe to say that the main story plot is about half complete as well. Then when you tack on the marriage components, our secret admirers as it were (aka the secret romanceables) and any post game content, that'll probably take up another 20% of the content overall.

This is not to say I'm not having a good time though - I'm genuinely having a blast with the content we have access to up until this point. I've reached the edge of my rope in completionist terms at around 70 hours in, and that's including completing the story content, maxing friendship with everyone except the weekenders, and completing all that's available currently in the compendium and museum. The only critique I personally have is that they should consider rebalancing the fishing mechanics and it's a bit weird that single crop and multi crop veg is inaccurate, but that's just nitpicking.

There's a few things still missing typically found in other farming sims. At the moment we have locked buildings we can't enter, mine floors we can't access, a cap on villager affection, unreleased datamined NPCs, an unavailable farm expansion, a single festival and no marriage system.

Apparently the game's website has a content roadmap that includes some of those things, but I've been trying to avoid content spoilers so I haven't looked myself.

Judging by what I could reasonably see being added, I'd guess the game has about half of what it's eventually going to end up with.

That being said, there's still a lot of value here at 14$. I don't mind buying in early for something with this much potential. I've already gotten my money's worth and then some, haven't been hooked on a farming sim this hard since Roots of Pacha.

Sigh, I wish they would have kept the demo up. OP in case you want a taste of that game, buy it, put a timer up for 1h and 45 minutes, play it, make sure to stay under those 2 hours, exit the game and refund if you don't like it in it's current state. Or keep playing it it hooks you.

I landed at 26.7 hours*, hit the game's limits in that time, and I've put it down for now until the next update drops.

*I have a fair bit of experience in this genre and in speed/challenge runs so YMMV on how long it takes you to see all of it.
