Animal Feed

Any Input Appreciated. I have had a very hard time at the end of 1st year into 2nd year gathering feed for Animals. And then having to constantly Purchase feed from Hayden is ... well costly. Any Advice? Thanks

Evolve your Animal skills and you will feed your animal any dishes, drinks, vegetables.

Before that - just let them out in Sunny days and make sure you have ordinary weeds in your farm for them.

Have you unlocked the windmill? You can make feed there out of common foragables

Even without progressing Farming skills - you should be able to feed them any forage or crops (as long as they are edible). So - just use those berries! They are plentiful and don't sell for much anyway.

Thank you all for your responses, much appreciated. Foraging for Feed was becoming very rare to produce, You cut 30 and lucky to get 2 either seed or hay. Will do your suggestions.

btw, forgot to add - use beads on Chicken Statue, it gives back feed from time to time.
For this - better to use 10 beads and not a 100 (at least in my experience)
One of the skills also increase the amount of seed/hay you get from grass (I think it's one on the animal skill tree, iirc).
Also, if push comes to shove - you can even feed them their own milk and eggs...

Thank you Keeper Of Monsters. I am leveled up completely in the Animal Experience. That"s why I found it odd that I am unable to get more feed from foraging grass. I was about to play and try out all options of advice you and the others have given.

If I can just feed animals those berries, what's the point of mill-made feeds?

Just plant potatoes or turnips etc whatever is the cheapest crop and feed them that or turn it into a dish and feed it to them so you get two beads instead of 1, that's what I did. I used tocollect the chestnuts and the berries and give them trail mix but it's just easier to buy the cheapest crop and cook that. At first I had tons of hay or whatever but then I eventually started to run low on that, thought okay since I have 100k+ gold I'll just go buy some from Hayden but it was cheaper to make dishes from cheap crops, it's not worth it to make animal feed in the mill you waste SO MUCH time doing so.

This don't work when I have 12 animals for each kind. Requires too much berries or other kinds of food to feed them.
