I'm thinking of gifting this game as a birthday gift. She plays something called stardew valley. Is this similar to that?

Yes. They are both farming sims. She will be happy with this. But do bare in mind it's Early Access so unfinished, so it's only a good fit is she would be okay with that.

They're both cozy farming game so i'm sure she'd love Fields of Mistria. Just know that it is still in early access so not every aspect of the game is our just yet.

It is. But like others have already mentioned, it's an early access game. While I had only two crashes after it's release a good chunk of people are having problems with the game's performance.
