This was the worst thing when I had played Harvest Moon back on PS2. This is an instant turn off unless nothing happens after you already marry your candidate.
No thanks, I have main character syndrome so everyone should only date me
Jokes aside, can't remember which games I've played but some of the characters were interested in each other and I felt like a thieving little wh*re for stealing their partner. Absolutely no thanks. I don't need to feel that way in a farming sim.
Similar issue to SunnySide. It sounded cool that NPCs would reject you based on their personal gender preference, till they actually reject you and you either have to accept the one you wanted doesn't like you or start over.
I don't think most players would like this any better. A lot of players will mostly ignore social till later game, this would force them to platy differently from how they would like to.
It could be fun to see NPCs get together but, it shouldn't be rivals and instead done after you settle down, if it were done at all.
I doubt something like this could be a toggle. If by some incredible luck it could be done, it would be an option that cannot be changed made at the very start of the game. Otherwise, I can only hope a feature like this that goes against the spirit of a cozy game does not get added in.
