demo running slowly
Anyone else having an issue where the game runs really slowly? Cutscenes, character movements, animation, dialogue. The whole deal. I can't seem to troubleshoot my way around it, wondering if it's a bug.

Yeah, I'm having the exact same problem.

I had the same problem as well. My character would only speed up when in a building. I tried turning off VSync as well as switching out of borderless and going to fullscreen, and the latter had a small improvement but my character still ran in slow-mo and cutscenes felt like they would take forever. I actually thought it was part of the retro style of the game until I saw other people talking about it here, and watched a youtuber play it where everything went SO MUCH faster. I really hope it's fixed, I loved the demo but the slow speed and the huge map made it really painful to get around and so I haven't played it again. On the brightside I didn't feel like the days passed too quickly, ha ha.

Yep, same here, and it's honestly unbearable. Everything is in slow motion, at least half the speed of all footage shown. At least turning off VSync seems to resolve it for me? But given how many are having the issue and can't resolve it, it feels like it's a bigger issue than that.

Same here. I thought it was my specs, but the game doesn't seem to be asking for a lot

Yeah, I had the same problem. I thought it was maybe because I had too many other things open, but even after closing them I still got the lag/slow motion. I did also try turning off the VSync like some others here, but that didn't work either. Enjoyed the demo, but the lag of everything really did hamper the experience quite a bit.

well, I though it was a game limitation, like, you gain speed while leveling or something like that.

But even with this hypothesis, it's still too slow for me. And I don't understand the speed variation between maps.

The slow speed is definitely a glitch that is just affecting some players,. I also thought it was on purpose at first! But I watched a youtuber play it and it was much faster on his computer. On mine it was so slow I could easily see the individual running animation frames.

Try reducing the resolution in the settings and see if that does anything? I think it has something to do with the resolution your game is at. I found that I can either play the game in fullscreen or borderless mode, where I'm stuck at the highest resolution possible and therefore the game plays incredibly slowly, or I can play on a lower resolution in windowed mode, but then the lower resolution means the game window is small. Then I don't have the ability to make the window larger without increasing the whole game resolution and then starting to lag again. My current solution was to play windowed mode at the largest resolution size I could handle without the lag and game speed becoming detrimentally slow. I'm genuinely not sure how to fix this? I don't know if there is a way to change your resolution while in fullscreen or borderless mode, as its just grayed out for me.

Thank you for the suggestion, I'll try it out!

I had also tried setting the game to high priority in task manager (as another commenter suggested) and unfortunately it didn't help. Resolution is one of the few things I haven't tried out yet. As for fixing it, hopefully the dev team will be able to come up with a fix later on. There's still plenty of time before EA hits.

After trying several fixes with no luck, I'm starting to think it's an optimization issue on NPC Studio's end. It's not unusual for independently developed games to have poor optimization. I just hope they smooth out the wrinkles before EA. If not, it's a no purchase for me (which sucks, because I've been anticipating this game for years).

Does anyone know what development platform they're using? Is it Unity?
