Of course, slower systems might take longer to boot the game (:
However, being able to skip the slow-as-hell "Win"/"Defeat" animation would work wonders here.
TBF... I'm not even using TikTok or any of the other apps of that kind.
When I watch YouTube I mostly watch videos +20 minutes.
Although, in reality that has nothing to do with my patience, really.
I must say, though, I find it a bit strange for you to come into this thread with the assumption that I consume a lot of short form media just because I don't like staring at an animation that serves zero purpose.
It's fine if you like it, however, I don't. I'm simply voicing that opinion. A quick fix would be to make it skippable. It wouldn't even take a programmer 10 minutes to do.
I should know. I do it for a living. My patience is not bad, my problems at work can span months ;)
But when I sitting down to relax and play some game I do enjoy the game itself and the faster I can get into the next one the better.
If I could queue directly from the "Defeat"/"Win" screen the problem with also be solved.
It was a joke mostly, but I understand why you're offended.
Also there is no way your game boots faster than letting the victory/defeat screen run down.
Connecting to Arena's servers is almost entirely on them, and it takes longer than 2 seconds to do so on average.
I just timed it.
If I alt+F4 the second the game is over I can boot the game in around 8 seconds on average. If I wait for the "Game Over" sequence to finish it takes around 15 seconds on average.
That's 7 seconds more than just booting the game back up.
*These numbers might vary depending on your own system, however, with my system this is the timing. I did not include match queue loading as that can vary depending on how fast a match is found. I began recording the "Game Over" sequence the second the "BOOM" animation starts from the player profile and stopped the timer when I was in the menu.
When doing alt+F4 I started the timer the second I closed the game and stopped it as soon as I hit the menu.
If you do not mind the sequence it's fine, however, I'd rather skip it and get into the next match 7 seconds faster.
For me it's annoying that I can't skip it. It frustrates me that I'm forced to sit there and watch the animation until it's finished playing before I get control back.
I agree. By simply skipping the sequence the ordeal with be solved.
End game wouldn't feel so slow.
What's your suspicion?
There are ways to offload processing behind the scenes while still keeping the UI interactive.
I'm a Software Engineer so I'm very familiar with the inner workings of such systems.
If it's synchronization of data it could defo be done behind the scenes while the client keeps the momentum.
Maybe some day it will change.
Sadly a company like WoTC rarely change their ways.
