Magic: The Gathering Arena

Co-Op Multiplayer Mode? When?
Having MTG online gives so many advantages and creative direction opportunities.

Playing Magic with co-op multiplayer a la two headed ogre or more makes for an interesting game and gameplay opportunities.

Why haven't they implemented this yet and just dance around as online MTG proxy?

There seems to already be verbiage in cards for multiple targets or players - was this ever a feature in MTG?

Isn't this how two headed ogre works?
It's a good idea and certainly requested, especially for commander which is very popular and already in the game to some extent, but only on a 1v1 basis. The current client does not seem well capable to handle 3+ player formats. Even if it could, the way disconnects are handled currently does not give much hope that it would work very well.

Yeah the server issues aside, This is the digital version and it isn't too much of a lift to get functioning. Commander Brawl is very popular, but yes having 1v1 still isn't the vision of multiplayer co-op 2v2 at least would be a start.

and even still I understand people are disappointed about disconnects and lag, but This game could be so much more if they think of what could be, unburdened by what has been.

Disconnects aren't that bad.

Ya like the opportunity for my opponents or probably more likely my own teammate to quit when the game ins't a steamroll leaving me to 2 on 1.

commander and brawl are actually super different, because the historic card pool is not the eternal card pool

The game cant even handle 1v1 combos you expect it to handle more then 2 players of playing combos????? It would freeze up so fast.

Arena doesnt even have every ruling in place because it cant handle the actions. What they need is a stronger game engine to really get mtg to take off for online play.

If you want multiplayer just make a Spelltable set up :)

Latest dev video said they are discussing it, but will be a long way off yet. Maybe give it 3 or 4 years.

Coop could be great surely. But imagine, how much harder it will be to rig it.

2hg on MTGO was great while it lasted but they eventually took it away. I suspect the reason was that while it was popular it was not a driver of pack sales like the flagship formats (commander, standard)

I doubt they will implement coop gaming here at all. Much less any sort of multiplayer. This is the game simplified to be easier to manage and add on to.

Just make it a simple PvPvP option. That would be interesting. Either one or two players lose at once, one gets knocked out and it becomes a showdown, or somebody bails, and it's still a showdown. Better than one-on-one where people bail right away or you bail right away due to bad hands or someone assumes what kind of deck you have and bails as soon as they have to discard a single card. PvP isn't always fun in Arena, IMO. Quick games drag needlessly, or you get stuck with the same boring mill decks, spawn decks, or slam decks. The only real thought process is in building and testing your own deck, and the only strategy you have is pretty much dependent on luck of the draw.

PvPvP would make it interesting at least, and cause players to actually think instead of just being stupid and drawing the game out needlessly. I want a game where it's slow because it HAS to be, not because my opponent is either an idiot that has to bluff every...single....play.....
or is mentally challenged.
well never get more than 1v1's in arena for 1 simple reason :
the load on your systems to constantly be actively calculating 3+ decks so that each player gets the cards that their current win-lose ratio says they are allowed to have to counter potentially counter what the other 2+ players have would be insane. its easy to compare 2 decks and give each player what they need to either rush the game and force a quick loss or prolong the game. its several orders of magnitude harder for them to rig the game for 3+ decks, as each deck needs to be constantly checked against each deck.

if they just gave us a FAIR actually random draw and shuffle, it would cut down on system resources massively (you dont actually think this games low resolution sparse excuse for graphics cause the FPS dips, do you? you can turn that all off and it dosent effect anything), but it would also reveal the absolute fact that : yes, they are in fact rigging not only the opening draw, but *every* draw, actively.
the devs could add 2headed giant from magic duels or vintage team draft from mtg online or commander, now ask yourself why they dont want it. because they rather split the player base to keep us from uniting against them together. they are a true menace to think that evil
