is magic a toxic game ?
essensially in real life we can't just be toxic to our adversary if we ever want to play with them again but in mtg arena i've found very difficult to keep my cool against very frustrating decks, i think there is a very good reason why mtg arena do not let us search for players we fought against.

No chat or play search is the best thing about this game.

I mean have you seen the people that play this game? Psst. They're not normal people.

tbh if they would be a chat it would be more toxic than a COD lobby XD

"Is Magic a toxic game?"
No more than any other. Far less than some. Internet culture sure has had a negative impact on overall social skills. This was happening online before Magic was available online.

Is Magic Arena set up to be toxic?
Depends on your viewpoint. There were times on Magic Online (the fullest digital experience of the game to date) where before chat was deaded by the PTB that it could yield some very toxic moments but overall imho it bonded players together into a cohesive community while it and the mothership forums lasted. When chat was diminished in "version four" and the forums closed down, that community slipped away. People left MTGO and maybe even the game and all that was left on the newer clients (MTGA, Duels) were people without much in the way of toilet training or social awareness.

On the other hand more people are threatened now by the rise of extremist points of view that perhaps synchronous communication capability would lead to even great toxicity. Who knows?

I do know that how you respond to the game and the people you encounter in it is totally on you. Like any public facing endeavor you may need to acquire an "elephant skin" to avoid the toxicity you encounter.

yes toxic is a keyword ability that causes opponent to get poison counter(s) whenever the toxic creature deals combat damage to the player
toxic 1 for instance causes the opponent to get 1 poison counter per hit
toxic 3 causes the opponent to get 3 poison counters per hit
etc

Not really... try Yugioh, now that is Toxic.
If you rope you'll probably be put against slow players so you gain nothing. You are really just wasting your own time.and if it's the other person don't internalize their toxicity, they would do that against anybody else

Yes & no. If you're talking about casual play (commander for example) then sure; people play against you purely by their own choice so if they don't enjoy it then they won't do it.
If you're talking about one of the 60 card formats like modern or standard, then pairings are typically done via tournament software; you get the opponent assigned to you. The only way the opponent can really protest the pairing is by conceding.

Of course there's a couple of factors balancing this.
In IRL play you can actually communicate with the other players in the game. They're also most likely people you know. You're much more likely to act in a socially responsible manner when you don't have anonymity to hide behind.

There's two ways to come down on this I think.

Firstly there have been studies about the role of anonymity in online interactions & it has been shown that having anonymity does negatively impact people's behaviour. People are much more likely to be obnoxious when they think that you don't know who they are.

Secondly, due to the way that arena finds and pairs up matches for you (unless you're playing someone on your friends list) you have next to no control about who you play against. It's also all 1v1 matches (no multiplayer). In effect arena simulates the tournament environment rather than the casual play environment (where your deck can be as obnoxious as you want, as long as it wins).

So, to answer:
Magic is not inherently toxic. Arena might be.

Only blue is toxic. That and the toxic mechanic.

The game can be toxic. But I've mainly seen it (and played it) in standard and phyrexia all will be one drafts. Sometimes in brawl, but toxic just isn't very good there.

Ho yea no, i'm not talking rank games of arena, you only go in to win not have fun, and i'm not talking irl either, irl magic is funny !
it's just that i'm saying there is a reason why you can't search the other player or message them or else people that play blue white would recieve death threats.

That speaks of serious mental illness though right? Someone you don't know offends you to the point that you want to spill their blood and end their lives? No matter how much you might be annoyed by their online behavior the two things do not compare.

i wasn't saying i was the one doing the threatening, but have you ever been in cods lobby ? now imagine getting your ass beat by bs deck on repeat for the last 20 games, then don't come to me with the "no one should be mean to each other" cuz half of the neabourhood's mother would have been insulted by then.
