There's a ribbon at the top of the store page with a bunch of symbols, those are for the different sets available. By default it's set to the most recent set, which is Pioneer Masters. If you click on the symbols for the other sets you'll see options for buying those packs instead; the most recent will be on the left and as you move right they get older, so the first few will still be available in Standard (but there should be a warning when you reach the ones that aren't).
Thanks. I decided to give "Jump In" a shot as one article suggested that it was a good place for a beginner to start if they want to get rewards quicker. The field seems to be pretty level as I've won a little over half my matches so this should do well for me.
Is that 4 wins in Standard or any formats combined?
Any format.
I just completed today's quest, kill 15 creatures. Great. I got 500 gold for it.
What is my best use of this gold? I realize 500 gold isn't going to get me anything significant so obviously I'm going to have to keep completing the daily quests and building up my gold reserves. So, when I get to like 100,000 gold. What should I do with it? What's my best bang for the buck? My ultimate goal is to get better cards so I can make better decks.
What do you suggest? I am open to any and all ideas.
Well, for one I definitely don't recommend trying to save up 100K gold at a rate of ~100 per day; if you want to simulate grinding poverty there's always real life.
Usually I play until I can afford a quick draft (5000 gold, so a week at most) and then do that and see what I can get out of it. You get to keep the cards you draft, and if you win a good number of matches you get some gems. Doing this can earn you enough gems to buy the mastery pass, which (depending on the level you reach before it ends) gives you a bunch of packs and some guaranteed mythic cards.
Okay, so the cards that I draft and keep, can I put them in the Standard decks that I'm using to improve them?
If you don't like to draft, then you can just get a pack from the most recent Standard set (or from a set that is still legal in Standard) and it will contribute towards a free golden pack (buying 10 eligible packs will give you a free golden pack). This pack will contain rare/mythic cards that are Standard legal.

The Untapped.gg site has useful meta information for various formats like bo1 Standard, bo3 Standard, etc. Some of the filters are locked behind a paywall, but there is some free info too.

Yes, the drafted cards (as well as any you open in packs) will show up in your collection and you can add them to whatever deck you want (within format limits).
You should see a button marked "Collection", where you can look at the cards you've amassed.
When you hit Edit Deck are you not getting a screen showing a bunch of eligible cards, with a list on the right showing the cards currently in the deck?
I found my collection. Okay, how do I know which of these cards are NOT Standard legal? Certainly "Silence" and "Unsummon" can't be Standard legal. And since I'm not familiar with current Standard, other than the cards I recognize from my playing days, I have no idea which of these cards I can put in my decks. So how do you tell what's Standard legal?
When you make a deck you can set the format you're trying to make it in. That should limit the cards you see to the ones available in that format.
That said Unsummon is in Standard right now.
Anyway, I think I'm good now. I have quite a collection. I'm not even sure how that happened. I've only won maybe 10 matches in the few days I've been playing.
