However, if you want a better chance at winning to start with you will have better luck trying out the starter deck duel which is under Events. You get some rewards for daily wins so it can help with that also.
Brawl can also be a nice format to try since matches go a bit longer and rely less on multiple copies of a card.
The main thing is to at least do your daily quests, they award a good number of coins and completing most of them in a week will give you enough coins to play a booster draft, where you can pick up some more cards, packs, and wins while learning more about what is strong there.
From there, I would suggest figuring out what decks you enjoy most and pick one that is competitive enough you would like to build cards for. Use your wildcards to get cards you need only when you are triple sure that you will use them in a deck consistently for a while, and that the deck is going to be good to handle some ranked matches if you care about that.
Or, if you are passable at Limited, play Quick draft, if you can get to three or four wins on average then that is the cheapest way to build your collection. Formats rotate, so you can get cards from many current Standard sets.
From what I hear, Historic got some new toys since you left, so any decks you had are probably outdated. And Uro got banned :( So, for Constructed, Standard is probably your best bet.
Rec. doing daily quests, easy way to be able to afford packs. and if you're interested, i run a high winrate deck in standard that has like no rares or mythics in it. (no joke)
