Decks to crush Standard BO1
Hey folks,

as probably many of you I've been somewhat disappointed to not see any bans for standard even though the standard BO1 meta is very much dominated by aggro and Omni combo. And while it is a very monotone (and frustrating) experience facing the same decks over and over, it can be used as an advantage. Usually, hard hedges against certain archetypes are not particularly good in a diverse meta as your deck will be weak against other archetypes but since the current meta is not "that" diverse it does work well.

Now, there is a new set looming on the horizon and it does look cool (mainly for commander) but the cards are way too expensive and offer nothing against aggro. My prediction is that it will have almost no impact on the BO1 meta and we still will be in the same aggro/omni dominated situation.

So while we wait for the next rotation, we might as well make the climb more enjoyable by using and sharing decks that can crush aggro and Omni combo. I've used this Azorius control last season to climb to top 500 mythic and surprisingly it performed exceptionally well for me (around 60% winrate).

you should ALWAYS hedge for the standard meta, eg by maindecking enchantment removal and boardwipes.

jace does little enough for u that u probably don't wanna run 4-of, 2 or 3 maybe? like i don't get why you wanna mill here

I still need a win con and Jace allows me to have one with only 4 cards slots. I know some other decks run Overlord of the Mistmoors or Horned Loch-Whale but I didn't like them too much since they can easily get removed and don't win me the game (fast enough). I usually need 2-3 Jace mills to close out the game and having 4x off lets me consistently get them.
I tried this strategy, and I found that Riverchurn Monument and a Jace is usually enough to deck opponents, if you are able to stabilize. My mix was two Jace, one Monument, worked fine with all the card draw. But I see you played four Flankers as graveyard hate, Monument would not work with that.

yeah i saw that but i don't think even jace mills enough to be a good wincon and is vulnerable to a couple of major counters (especially in best of 3 where sideboarding anti-mill is not unheard of)

I guess it's a bit of personal flavor what combination of Jace + Riverchurn you want to play. Personally for BO1, I prefer to have as much consistency as possible while trying to have cards be versatile. Jace does a little bit more than just win. Sometimes he can hold off creatures which more or less is a +3 life on his plus. Sometimes you can use him as a draw 3 after the first Jace was used. Sometimes you can force the opponent to make a bad attack by -4 after entry (especially nice when you have Soul Partition up).

The Kutzil's are true MVPs. The amount of insta concedes by Omni decks were more than worth it. Even when it's not a graveyard match-up they are still more valuable than for example a Rest in Peace or Soul-Guide Lantern would be.

Mate, it's in the title as well as the text xD

I'd be interested in hearing what other people are currently playing to "anti-meta" the meta. I could imagine Orzhov control being pretty good or maybe Abzan?
