Magic: The Gathering Arena

Why do people rage quit so much?
I get that my deck is a little bit annoying but I'm not exactly playing a meta deck. I swear about 1/3rd of the time when I win, the opponent uses 3 timeouts and then loses.

I mean, I get that I kill all your creatures, and I get that I make you discard, and I get that me winning often seems to come out of nowhere... but I'm playing black. If you don't expect black to destroy your creatures then I don't know what to say.

I've had people quit on turn 2 after I use a kill spell on turn one and a discard on turn two, and they just leave.

There's cards I hate too but I don't leave as soon as somebody plays authority of consuls on turn 1.

Edit: I'm not talking about conceding, I'm talking about turning the game off or walking away from the computer, so I have to sit through your timeouts.

Not that exactly, but IIRC he gave a talk at a convention listing 20 design principles, and one of them was game must be fun to play.
right, but mark rosewater is a combo player obsessed with giving his own cards to opponents in ways that deliver otks who keeps printing counterspells, so have you considered that maybe he doesn't agree "counterspells" are an unfun mechanic or in fact bad for the game and his remarks about the game being fun to play aren't in any way in support of the point you're saying he's supporting and his idea of "too complex to be fun" is somewhere north of counterspells not "anything more complicated than a vanilla creature is a hate crime" like the person who "quoted" him lolllll

"the game should be fun" is a reaaaaaal long way from "if a player is frustrated we need to cut the mechanic that frustrates them" jsyk

Because MTG players are salty af. I play paper magic as well as arena and I get people going afk all the time burning their timeouts in ranked. In paper magic I get multiple people raging over spelltable about my, also monoblack, deck removing their commander multiple times. And i'm just like, bro i'm monoblack why are you surprised i'm removing your creatures?

Basically alot of mtg players hate interaction and just want to play their 40 creature decks and want you to play good christian magic.

Yes, fun is subjective, so they rely on polls and reactions on various social media. Then, there's the whole Timmy/Johhny/Spike thing, the types of players they design for.

MaRo is also the best known, widely respected game designer who knows what he's talking about. His personal preferences manifest in an odd rare or mythic now and then.

We are having this conversation because you were needlessly snarky in your answer to the person who claimed games should be fun.
i quit early if i cant win sense obv losing doesnt give ANY rewards its not rage quitting only time i rage quit is if the opponent is constantly casting spells during my turn or using a complete b.s deck.

It's never raging quitting IMO unless you alt + f4 the game and leave your opponent on rope. Conceding is honourable in magic, always has been, always will be in my eyes. Don't let other people convince you their's anything wrong or bad about conceding, I hate this growing opinion otherwise.

Counters are fine, their's no difference between having your creature removed at cast or 2 seconds later when it's on the field, the only different is the counter negates "enter battlefield" effect, which is the only counter we have to ETB effects outside of a few select 5+ costing creatures or artifacts-isk, counters are needed to keep ETB effects in check, along with other problems that become impossible, or near, to remove.

because the game is full of stupid mechanics and no games. 40% of all games are doomed right from the beginning , another 50% are bad matchups or super slow players and 10% is fun

just had a game which lasted 30 minutes , another of those stupid mechanics with forever extending timers to promote griefers, ropers and other lame behaviour. alt+f4 was the result

decisions made by leftis, allow idiots to dominate the normal people. so everything can become absurd. at least trump is patching RL :D

so true.
Because the pieces of ♥♥♥♥ who bought wotc have been luring people who are like them, absolute pieces of ♥♥♥♥, and they've turned the game into their image too, which is an absolute rigged pile of ♥♥♥♥ game.

I don't mind counterspell decks. They can't counter all my creatures. Eventually something will get through. I'd rather play against a counterspell deck than some of the crap that I've been running into. No deck should have 20 12/12s by turn 4. Sorry, that's just stupid.

20 12/12s i find so much easier to deal with, its not usually a quick process so its easy to catch and work against, all the counterspells are just annoying as hell.
Id say decks that take take your cards are slightly worse

What about toxic decks that all they have to do is cast a spell on their creature and you get a poison counter and then they just proliferate you to death without even attacking you? Yeah, they're a lot more fun to play against than counterspell decks.
