How can I complete 50% of these achievements if people just leave?

I feel like them calling them achievements is wrong, their not suppose to be done in 1-3 games, their more like long term challenges, with a few easy one mixed in so they can claim that their not all insanely annoying to get.
I had the exact same objection, yeah.

But you can't expect people to wait around once the outcome of the match is determined.

What we need is a bot match that counts towards achievements, but that's strong enough that it's not just trivial to play against. That, or let a bot take over for the opponent when they concede. Didn't Magic Duels used to have that feature?

The problem is that they're not "put the effort in" they're "do you just so happen to play against the type of person who'd rather let the match play out in an obvious loss versus just giving you the win and saving both players a few moments of time."

It's just unfortunate design.

Ive had very opposite experiences in game though. Ive completed most achievements except those that require to play a certain number of matches or cast a certain number of creatures of a certain type.

Was really interesting having someone sit through 800 gain life triggers though, and its still diabolical for wizards to hide the "Im on a quest" emote/phrase behind 150 explorer matches. Would make grinding achievements so much easier.
Most of the achievements accrue progress whether you or they concede or not. A couple one-offs need you to get victory a certain way like mill or poison, but you only have to do it once so the real achievement is getting an opponent who will go down with the ship, it is by no means impossible.

Put aside whether you "can get the achievements or not." In a theoretical world where you were able to complete your sweep against the opponent (poison counters, mill, what have you) even if the opponent deigned to concede, would that not be a better gameplay experience? And, if not, how so. It's not "is this system totally unworkable and impossible and the worst thing ever" it's "hey, here's a short coming, it'd be nice to make it better in this one specific way."

Though, of course, I can only speak for myself on that front, perhaps others are arguing that the achivements system slept with their mom and killed their dog.
