Removal + aggro + counterspells + tempo plays can all be good against Shelly/MB decks and also fend off the rest of the meta. Have you checked out untapped.gg. mtgazone or reddit?
- 13 top decks in alchemy of which 3 are variations of black-nazgul, so say 11 decks
- 9 out of 11 utilise black, of which 4 are mono-black and 3 are two-colour with black
- mono-red aggro is the only non-black mono-colour deck.
Yikes, but it looks like if I want to win I have to join team black probably.Any particular decks that are fun to play though? Just spamming the board with nazgul and the ring temps you doesn't exactly strike me as fun as you could probably train a monkey to play that deck.
I'm currently running a fun blink deck, (was running Vannifar pod but it is was very subpar vs a large swathe of decks, and before that Coco Angels which is competitive but inconsistent vs certain decks) but since I am not really laddering with it I might not be the best source for competitive ideas. It does well in the low-mid tiers (up to plat) and is competitive to a degree past that but for example I stopped bothering at plat 3 because Id rather ladder less next month (gold 4 instead of silver 1 if I stop at plat 3 and don't slide back to 4). Granted I probably could go much further but since I dislike the 1 step forward 1-2 steps back nature of ladder I don't bother. Mythic is a merely 2 packs more than Plat and that's 48 wins away from Plat 4 at minimum. Seems not worth it.
That said if you are determined, RDW is more fun than control black imho. Assuming you have the right cards and right format. (It does best in Standard afaik).
