Magic: The Gathering Arena

Achievements and Scooping
So I'm not one to complain when others surrender-time is valuable after all. But it occurs to me, a number of achievements recently introduced into the game seem very difficult to reach, because in many cases, the opponent clearly knows they've lost. "Win a game with 0 cards in your library" for instance requires drawing out your deck while you have Jace or the like on the field. If I see that, I'd normally surrender in response, because the game state is known.

There's a lot of achievements like that. Why can't we have a "when your opponent surrenders, the game continues with the opponent auto-passing priority for 1 round allowing you to play out your combo" or whatever?

Alternatively, with all the advancements in AI, maybe actually get a bot that can run a competitive deck and let us get achievements against it. Not Sparky, more like Shiny.

A wonder if they called them "long term challenges" or something if people would be less angry.

It's called Achievements, some of these are meant to be hard to get. What I miss is specific rewards tied to those.
Id like the swing to go through. Idc about an entire extra turn.

I personally have been letting people get their big finish instead of conceding early because I think if you have big enough overkill the mm treats your deck different. Also why I try to win close to lethal rater than full swing necessarily
scooping goes both ways, you get the scooper who scoops cos he's lost and then you get the 'im twindling my cursor over my permanents as i wish i could gleefully suck myself off' scooper who has now gained the advantage... the latter is much worse in my opinion.
To be clear, there's nothing wrong with scooping. What's wrong is that the incentive structure of the system is all broken. Part of getting an achievement shouldn't be "find another player willing to sit through stuff" it should be "design your deck to do the thing."

At least, that's my feelings on things.
while I get some of the achievements are like this, I personally dont mind as its only some that can be voided with a scoop, kinda makes achieving them more satisfying. Arena isnt the first game that has achievements that rely on pvp opponents so I think it falls under the same grounds.

Personally I am not chasing achievements because they have 0 impact on the game. That said I am sure some people probably do get upset when they are foiled while trying to them by their ops quitting. The thing is, You gotta figure out how to get them done if you want them. They are a puzzle of sorts. Sparky Bot is one method people are using.

I just got the extra turns achievement in a game where my opponent surrendered, so perhaps the system only excludes short games which ended in surrender.

there are other ways to win with 0 cards in your deck. most notable is omniscience + huge amounts of card draw.
