The UNFUN game. STAY AWAY FROM MTGA
This game is extremely not-fun.

While it used to be about synergy and strategy, now it's about packing as much removal and board wipes as you can and card draw.

Every game is dominated by Black and Red and white removal, which have the most annoying "strategies" that consist of

"I play something"
REMOVAL
"i play something"
REMOVAL
"i play something"
REMOVAL. NOW I PLAY SHEOLDRED GG
Or
"I buff up this creature to a 10/10, give it double strike and trample- on turn 3!"
Or
"I play this thing that makes it so you can't gain life if it's dealt damage."

Or
"you have 10 life, i play this card that does 10 damage."
OR
"this creature has deathtouch and if it does damage you lose- also if you kill it, it automatically returns to the battlefield."
OR
"If you take damage, you take that much more damage, and now Rush of Dread- you lose half of life, doubled, so that's all of it!"

This game is just insanely unfun because of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like this, which pretty much forces you to play removal heavy decks, and then you get beat by the ones with more experience being control decks.

Creature based synergy decks are all but unviable now, and it's not fun for anyone that actually wants to play a synergy and strategy based game instead of playing one instant win card- IMO.

I'm done with this game, there's no joy or fun here, and the forums are worse. This is the opposite of what a game is supposed to be- something for entertainment having fun, and the forums are worse.

Creature based synergy decks are all but unviable now, and it's not fun for anyone that actually wants to play a synergy and strategy based game instead of playing one instant win card- IMO.

1: you've just described exclusively synergy and strategy based decks
2: first pro tour of 2025 is a week away, you wanna bet there's creature decks in the top 5

Your example #4 is exactly the reason you see removal in every single deck that isn't as fast as red-aggro. If you can't kill a creature turn 1/2 you're toast by turn 3/4 vs aggro. And considering how much aggro you see in queue, it's almost mandatory to run this much removal.

Yeah pretty much. it makes the game pretty annoying overall that it devolves into "cards that instantly win the game vs removal"

Actually they do, if they make it so you can't gain life, and deal 1 damage per turn, eventually you lose, with no counter.

You are right in that lifepoints don't win the game itself, but you might be limited by lifepoints.

Either way, a card making it so you can't gain any life is pretty unfair and i would never play against any commander deck with this card personally.

I bet there won't be any creature based decks in the top 5, depending on what qualifies. (aggro or gruul red for example i don't consider creature based decks. They use creatures to deal damage, but the creatures are just expendables to fling at the enemy to get their LP down within 5 turns)

1: losing on turn 20 is not a real threat
2: the counter is *literally doing anything at all*. Sure, if you have absolutely no cards in your deck and can't do anything for twenty turns, you might lose!

You are running midrange. You do not need to gain life. Against someone who tries this, you play literally anything and win on turn 5 while they're pinging you for their 5th damage point.

You are right in that lifepoints don't win the game itself, but you might be limited by lifepoints.

Let's be very clear and explicit: Decks that have no lifegain still win Pro Tours.

1: the last championship, every top 5 deck was a creature deck (won by dimir demons i think)
2: sure, if you define creature decks to not include decks with creatures that play creatures and do damage with creatures and only run creatures, then """""creature decks"""" don't win.

Half of those are describing synergies between various cards and the other are just game mechanics like 'if you lose all your health you lose'.

That says far more about you than it says about the game. Archetypes have different hate pieces that shut them down and part of the game is winning through them, removing them or having a plan b. Reanimation faces graveyard hate available on lots of different cards, spellslinger faces card like high noon or Thalia, decks relying on etb effects face cards like torpor orb and hushbringer, lotus field and devotion face damping sphere effects, lifegain faces screaming nemesis and roiling vortex effects and the list goes on. They are part of the game.

interaction and stopping your opponent doing their game plan are literally fundamental to magic, in fact. The alternative is yugioh/rocket tag.

Yeah i'm not against "interaction"

My problem is the entire game has devolved into something that just isn't fun due to overreliance on strong "interaction" and instant win cards to counter the strong interaction.
I dunno why you're defending or trying to say what i said is wrong, i have played the game, i know what it feels like and that's how i'm describing it, and it's just not any fun any more.

I used to have fun in Alchemy with Anim Pakal and Rosie Cotton, plus other token generators and stuff built around it and some cards for removing artifacts enchants and creautres.. I haven't felt anything remotely as fun as the time when that was actually viable since they went out of rotation in Alchemy along with some other cool white weenie cards.

Even Elves doesn't really cut it, because it doesn't have White's adaptability and removal, or 2 cards that combo well and stuff. There is nothing that really fills the void of having a bunch of cards that synergize well and room for adaptable removal for me.

And even then, the game had it's annoying stuff like Deep Cavern bat.... but now it feels like it's been taken to the absolute extreme in terms of being unfun.

I am playing Project Ascension, paper magic, Commander paper magic, and other games.... MTGA is not going to be one of them for a while. I may even uninstall despite having a blast years ago.

Right now though, it's just not any fun to play anymore, everything i like to play seems to have become worse or less viable, and all the things annoying about Standard and Alchemy magic a few years ago have went from a 1 to a 10.
