match ups also seems to be pretty deck archetype dependant. If you are facing decks you don't like in unranked, try playing ranked or building a new deck. search youtube for "mtg zero rare decks" if you are short on gold/wildcards, lots to choose from
Until platinium rank, you need to win more than 1/3 matches to progress, then at platinium rank you suddenly need to win more than 1/2 matches to progress. This threshold makes it feel like the difficulty of ranking up increased greatly, and you will face mostly players who have like 35-50% win rate.
In Alchemy format, after hitting Platinium 3 you will notice that 9 decks are quite popular:
- fling deck (mono red)
- mouse deck (white/red)
- heist deck (red/black/blue)
- rabbits deck (white/green)
- life gain deck (white/black)
- artifact deck (white/blue)
- frog deck (blue/green)
- desert deck (white/green/black)
- ramp deck (usually green/red I think?)
I have a hard time remembering another popular deck. I think first 3 are the most popular here. So I would say that at platinium rank the meta is quite established. The higher you go, the less you will see other decks.
Post your decklist. No one believes you. Or tell me how much money you spent. Or show screenshots. Something.
I posted 2 platinum T4 match videos on my channel.
Find channel link in my steam profile text or search LeoFIN / Fishing.Gaming on utube.
Thou i think these videos dont proove anything.
Cus in first match you can clearly see that my opponent is filling field with lands and not doing much of anything else.
In second match my opponent is trying, but he basicly fills his field with useless land units.
Also there are players who just straight give up when they see couple monsters on my side of field.
And these are all platinum players.
Also i have to mention that i played draft tournament with free draft entry token.
And i got 6 wins and got 850 gems and also had 2500 gold saved and i was able to buy more packs and get more copies of better cards.
So in first match you see 2 freeze card in my hand, but those freeze cards are not in my deck anymore in second match.
I replace cards as i get better ones.
Propably good they have filter.
So i have 84h in this game now and im alrdy Platinum T1, so diamond rank is true fact soon.
So my final conclusion about this match making:
It seems that new players can more easily grind ranks than players with more hours in.
Because match making gives you players with similar play hours.
(players with not so much experience of game)
I recorded another video for observation purposes.
Another ramp deck player who just gave up in under 3mins and gave me easy win.
LeoFIN / Fishing.Gaming on utube, there find my mtg videos.
Here is a thing.
1) At bronze you get two points of progress per win and lose nothing if you lose. So any winrate will eventually get you out of bronze if you play enough.
2) At silver or gold you get two points of progress per win and lose one point if you lose. So any winrate above 33% will eventually get you to platinum. In practice any somewhat cohesive non-meta deck will get it done.
3) At platinum or diamond you get one point of progress per win and lose one point if you lose. So you do need to maintain 50% winrate to continue to climb the ladder and hopefully eventually get to mythic.
4) Mythic is a another beast entirely, it is actually less competitive than diamond/plat, because people feel less pressured to win and experiment more. Playing in mythic is by far the best way to play standard, because you get to play against decent players and enjoy good variety of decks. But you do need to get there first...
All of this means that any kind of serious gameplay starts at platinum. You can still run into meta decks at ranks below, but its not nearly as ruthless.
He's trying to flex. I don't believe what he's saying at all.
I bring that up because i see topics claiming that this game is pay to win.
And clearly it isnt.
Those are faulty claims by ppl who are 100% clueless.
