This season I've been learning how to play/make a Gruul ramp creature deck. Trying to see how good I can get it in the current meta. I've been floating around plat 1 for a while now. Haven't quite made it to diamond but I think it can do it. The deck is tons of fun to play :)
If you're stuck at the bottom of this rank, the problem is most likely that you play bad. Using monored may help you, sure. But it may not, and it will certainly not fix the underlying problem.
A lot of people in this game, for a reason I can't fathom, seem to think they pilot their decks flawlessly. While that might be your case, I would urge you to think it is not.
But to answer your question as you probably wanted people to, yes, you do need to play a competitive deck. Because now, you need to have a positive winrate. Monored is arguably the best deck in the meta, and monowhite token (I think that's what you're talking about) is also an option. There are many. Monoblack midrange is a good one. Boros control too, and so are the various domain decks, azorius mentor, monoblue tempo, golgari midrange, and more I can't think about at the top of my head. Options abound.
May I ask, why do you want to go above Platinum? Unless you want to be a professional, competitive player, the cost/benefit of going higher than Platinum is not worth it.
You need to win a total of 24 games, without losing, to get from Platinum to Diamond and another 24 wins to go from Diamond to Mythic. All for 1 and 2 extra packs of cards.
Not to mention when you start getting higher and higher you'll just start meeting more and more control players which means longer and longer games
Enjoy your 3 packs and 2 card arts and save yourself the headache.
So im asking to see, what's normal? I spend a lot of time playing and i built more than 100 decks, if there was no limit i would probably have 200 decks by now and i beleive im having more fun doing so than playing the game.
What is kinda sad is that indeed i have 1 mono red deck that happen to be red dragon rush style in historic and damn if i would only be playing this i feel i would climb up the ranks. i just dont want to. The game offers an almost infinite tactics possibilities only to get ♥♥♥♥ by mono reds.
But im happy to learn some ppl are doing great with control decks at higher levels.
This.
I am at Platinum 4 and that's fine, especially since I am on-call right now and if the phone rings during a match I need to answer the phone, not figure out my next turn. Of course, my ego is not linked to my rank on Arena, either, and I am not a MtG content creator so Arena is not part of my actual job. The effort to grind my way up to Diamond is not effort I wish to spend--at that point it is work, not enjoyment.
So let's say with a 60% win ration this would make 38 matches.
Gotta work on a few very good decks to climb the rank then.
Not sure my 250 card decks can punch out of diamond too random.
No, with a 60% win rate you would need to play approx 120 matches for each of Platinum & Diamond - which would give you 72 wins and 48 losses.
