Duskmourne Art is very good
Has anybody seen the recent showcases ?
At first from what i knew i thought it was going heavily on the "Stranger things" nostalgia trend but the recent showcases show very horrorific art and make it feels it's own thing very well i think ( although I still hope that one day another Bloomburrow set comes out since this style of fantasy applied to animals this way is not usual to see and it looked very cool)

Some of the art for the demons look intriguing, but I lose almost all interest when I read the cards. "Fear of Failed Tests" isn't meant to be profound like a pervasive sense of inadequacy or the weight of responsibility... the flavor text indicates it is referring to literally failing school exams. The "Undead Sprinter" is a zombie high school track and field athlete. Seems to me like they're all in on the Stranger Things nostalgia.

Sigh.

Edit: Also, waiting to see some sneak attacks, the most incredible manabases, or the slowest format of all time, otherwise cards like Doomsday Excruciator are going to be flat out useless in Limited.

I get what you mean, i think this set ranges to two sides, cosmic horror (?) more human comprehensible horror ( scary clown and so on ) and goofy horror heavily inspired from possibly splatter movies.

The fear of failing test card art seems fine but I understand that with the flavour text and name it seems more linked with our reality in a way it makes sense considering the fact that the plane is basically a link between different planes so the mesh between different things are canonically reasonable although still may feel out of place regardless.
It feels like a sort of spin off story with it's own style, canonically explain linked to magic as a whole with an added effect of being a bit reletable to real life caused by the nature of the spin off itself which is not a single imaginary fantasy place, but something linked with our reality aswell with all the good and bad aspects of it in a fantasy universe.

From what I've seen, all of the non-human art looks pretty sick, I like the overall theme of the set. I still would like to see vastly more traditional-media and not just digital paintings/renderings (I say this as a digital artist)... the digital art is well done, but it will always feel cheap sitting next to an equally well done oil-painting.

The humans, however, all look like they teach at a hyper-liberal college and spend their free time fighting for the squatting rights of all the demons.

Even the "props" look like they're low budget.

This thing the guy is holding looks like you find it at Toys R Us next to the "Real Nightvision Goggles!" which are just green glasses and a flashlight attached to the side of them.

It's another stupid cosplay set like OTJ and MKM.

The theme of Duskmourne is literally modern horror. if it's "by the director of the Blair Witch Project" or was parodied in a Scary Movie sequel or something, it's on here. evil dead/the thing era might appear, that's part of the same genre. If anything looked like high budget horror they'd have failed their design brief lol

What the actual ♥♥♥♥? They are making a 3 mana board wipe.

I mean, unless you have both tapped and untapped, but still, assuming all of your stuff is untapped, or tapped they can just board wipe for 3 mana. And a 6 mana card the basically mills everything but the bottom 6 cards.. because that's not going to be abused by mill decks. is WOTC out of their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ minds?

Yeah i may have to quit MTG. The amount of board wipes, and how cheap they are becoming, is ridiculous. Plus mono-black getting OP ♥♥♥♥ for no reason.

To all the horrors, spectrers and monsters of the expansion: please, please murder, eat and dismember every single one of these adult-players, uninteresting dei characters. Worst thing about the set.

There have already been three mana creature wipes in the game, usually with a drawback. I don't remember all of them but I recently added Doomskar to a deck and Kaya's Wrath is 4 mana but you get life per creature as well

There's technically a two mana one in one of the Ixalan sets

Oh yeah I thought I remembered one from a long time ago lol Bontu's Last Reckoning from like... literally when Arena was still in beta I think.

Odyssey block had one in the third set, Breaking Point, though a player can prevent it by taking 6 damage

I don't think any of them, besides Brotherhood's end (which is only a board wipe if you have less than 3 toughness creatures), is in standard, plus there is no state that isn't "tapped" or "untapped" so like there is basically no draw back.

And i don't think there needs to be more of them that can be used in Historic or brawl.

Bontu's Last Reckoning has no drawback. Do or Die does, but it's two mana so.

Standard uh.... you understand like *the whole point* of standard is that expectations like the cost of board wipes can and should change?

I'd give you a more specific opinion but i think u forgot to name the card lol
