Why is there no ranked Brawl?
Any ideas? They allow Historic/Timeless, which are... wild rides. So why not just let us play what is arguably the most fun format in ranked form?

What’s the point of wanting a rank? What point does having a rank associated with brawl serve?
Higher rank -> possibility of playing with better players -> more interesting games for players who seek a challenge.

It's easy to create such a system, sure, but I think you are underestimating how much that would shrink the pools of available players to be matched against. I suspect it would be much more an issue than just longer wait times. Perhaps I'm wrong and there are enough concurrent players to make that work, but I'd bet you end up playing the same 3-5 players most of the time.

Looks like Brawl has a decent popularity (~16%), which is 4 times more than Timeless. One could say that it should work as fine as Timeless format, if the decks won't be split into more than 5 categories. But I feel like Timeless is much faster, which means more matches are made and it would be faster to find a match in faster format. Haven't played much Timeless and Brawl though.
My guess is that, if it were available, the proportion of Brawl players playing ranked would be much lower than the proportion of standard players (or any other format) playing ranked. Brawl is aimed at being commander lite and commander is typically a more jank friendly format. There is cEDH but that's a relatively small part of it.
Personally, I don't think Brawl really captures the vibe of commander that well given changing from 4 players to 2 massively changes the viability of certain cards and strategies (like aggro normally letting you take out 1 person before being outvalued), but that's a separate issue.

there are about 320 different categories in current brawl matchmaking
name 20.

this is just asking for the names of 20 legendary creatures that are meta relevant. Which is a waste of both our time.

this is how brawl currently determines deck categories. It turns out "320" was low by at least a few orders of magnitude lol.

this feature is currently available in regular brawl matchmaking. both deck quality (as measured by the proxy of card rarity and use rate) and winrate appear to have an effect.

One thing that basically every brawl player agrees on is that hellqueue is a real thing - when you use a top rated commander with a bunch of meta options for supporting them, you end up in a queue where only about a dozen commanders are relevant, and you start seeing Atraxa Grand Unifier every second or third game.

I see Atraxa in mediocre shells after I get a lucky winstreak with my deck, because I use a low rated commander and a lot of unusual cards, but almost all my lands are rare and I have about 10-20 cards i share with meta control shells

I don't think that's a category of brawl... whoever is saying that needs to give their head a shake and realise the implications of said statement.

what you think is not relevant to anything. decks are categorised using a single number from ~100 to about 100000.
ChaffyExpert 6 nov. 2024 às 16:28
Probably because Brawl and commander are supposed to be casual formats.

Also brawl decks are far less consistent- i mean you can put cards that do similar effects in and you do have your commander as a consistency, but i don't think a ranked Brawl would be that fun given that there is a 50/50 chance that you lose or win based on nothing but luck.

And i want to be extra clear, it's not that you can't try to make the deck as consistent as possible, it's just that with only a 1% chance of drawing any specific card, it's very much luck based even more than regular magic.

a big part of the difference between cedh and regular commander is like, in cedh you carry 15 tutors and a card draw engine to get that consistency. If you wanna see what I mean, play Atraxa the Grand Unifier and a deck full of mythic rares and someone will show you theirs soon enough :p

It's their excuse to not balance cards. No need to balance when it's not ranked.

they aren't going to 'balance' an inherently casual format lol. what would this even mean
Hunny 6 nov. 2024 às 22:12
I rather see 4 player Brawl with 40 starting life but don't think that happen anytime soon.
M3rett0 7 nov. 2024 às 6:38
Because brawl uses weighted matchmaking.
