Energy in historic. Modern horizons 3.
does anyone feel like the balance of the new energy cards is a bit off?
i am seeing cards like guide of souls and its energy packet show up in a lot of different lists changing how multiple decks are constructed or galvanic discharge doing the same for red.
it seems like a lot of decks that are red white or blue are able to mix in the energy theme to improve the deck. I see it in life gain decks, boros aggro decks, blue red wizard decks, burn decks and a bunch more. so instead of energy showing up as its own deck or in a deck or two the cards are so strong the energy theme is being used seemingly everywhere it can be. I dont have an issue with this its just created a shift in the meta a bit and the decks i am seeing a lot. Does anyone feel like they designed these cards poorly?

Energy made a lot of sense in Kaldesh, here it just feels kinda outta place imo.

i remember aetherworks marvel decks being pretty out of control for a bit but this is very different.

no if the cards are proving useful and seeing play often then how are they bad design? :algebraic:

by taking up to high of a percentage of the meta and altering multiple established deck lists beyond a card change or two. Maybe they design isn't bad but maybe its stronger than it should have been idk.

It's basically another resource to use instead of mana for affects, what i mean by this is

A goblin could have a "pay 2 mana, it gets +1 attack" and the energy does the same thing.

So that's why it's in every deck regardless of theme, it's like extra mana (but not really technically speaking more like a second mana pool to use for certain activated abilities) which makes it stronger than just having the cards with the mana ability that does essentially the same thing.

Not to mention energy is easy to get because it's not well thought out as a game mechanic, i mean most of the cards seem to generate about as much as they will use, which makes it near infinite untill you run out of your "actual" mana or cards.

And that's why it probably is in red/white or generally aggro or midrange decks, it's a quick way to gain power for a strong hit as fast as possible, by using up a "second mana pool" for triggered abilities that gain power.

And in the case of Blue it can probably be used for some combos or inf combos because some of them are good for control.
