probley referencing the MM bug wizards left in abit ago, alot of people who didnt look into the details & just assume its all rigged now.
They intend to make it the new MTGO but it takes them months to drop anything related to it. Its why cards are being printed to say "each opponent" / "target opponent" as their adding more then 1v1 modes & they are adding older sets bit by bit, MH3 was an example of that.
the game takes an unreasonable amount of time to grind for a competitive constructed deck once its good you have it for a short period before you require another playset of rares or mythics or an entire deck change due to the constant power creep and new sets. Ive never spent money but there is no challenge in that its how much time do you have and you need a lot of it. In my 300 hours of play time i have gathered together a few decks in this historic format. a few cant compete in their meta anymore due to power creep and i would need 30 new cards for the deck that are rares and mythics.
the other has since required 12 new rares since constructing it. over a year and a half
it is a constant grind to have a deck that can produce a decent win rate.
time is money for most people.
the issue is the pricing. its to high. even if you have the extra cash to blow the pricing seems very off. very greedy from the company.
there are some things i see that you can justify the pricing with maybe.
as someone mentioned the fact that you can go pro on arena and get invited to irl events.
unlike normal drafts and tournaments you can play a single match at a time you have a LOT of time to complete an event.
you can play in tournaments and drafts at any hour of the day
there is a ranking and match making system.
constant updates. Card animations( this has lacked since its introduction)
there is no cheating on arena when there definitely is in paper. People say there are scrips and other things but in my 300 hours ive never had someone cheat. i've had the game bug and have match losses from bugs or disconnects but i dont consider that someone hacking or cheating.
there are so many ways to play the game on arena and it is well executed in the look and feel of the game play.
with all this though i still feel like the pack prices are to high. Magic has always been a trading card game. This is not a trading card game. You don't get to trade or sell your cards. Wild cards can be seen as some sort of trading system but it isn't .
paper magic packs are to high considering the cost of production too but there is so many layers to the value the consumer gets out of that and in the end they hold a physical item in their hand they can then sell or trade if they choose to.
if that isn't there the packs should be a LOT cheaper. thats the trade off.
I mean I like the game, but the value proposition is awful. So if that's how it's gonna be, I'll just play for free when I grind enough gold.
some of the bundles are the cost of a brand new game or more just for gems and some draft tokens. they are pricing this super off.
would it be better to just release sets as expansions to the base set of the game? every set release sold as an expansion and you get 4x of each card.
the game is looking fun to me at the moment there are a lot of cards to utilize and brew with in historic . drafting is always satifying. I considered spending the money because i'm playing daily this year but the pricing is to unfair. Its not that i don't have the money it just doesn't seem like it makes a lot of sense.
I honestly think people go about playing MTGA the wrong way. they focus on the money. The game gives you a way to play for free and you can use gold earned to make gems. Have 5k gold? Quick draft. Have you become awesome at quick drafting that set? Move into premium for 10k gold and make even more gems. Crack those packs u earned by playing and make a standard deck to do ranked to earn more decks and gold. Once you get high rank take that deck into constructed events and earm more gems and packs! once you have 3400 gems get the mastery pass and earn every more packs by playing and doing missions. do midweek events for free rares and gems.
Anyone just spending hundreds of dollars on drafts and packs is doing it wrong.
Oh and FFS, cosmetics. listen. pick one portrait, one sleeve, one companion and one alternative land art. make that your identity and NEVER SPEND ON COSMETICS AGAIN!!!!
On the other hand, you could play for 30 minutes a day and earn the gold in game to pay for the draft. No need to spend any money at all on this game.
