You can use MTGA Assistant to see your hidden MMR among multiple other helpful features. https://aetherhub.com/Apps/MTGAAssistant/
While a few years old, you can see a deep dive into rating calculations here https://hareeb.com/2021/05/23/inside-the-mtg-arena-rating-system/
that sounds a little cheaty to be honest.
its bonkers, ill make a deck, it will kick ass for 5 to 6 games in a row, than ill have a win rate of 50/50 for about 7 to 8 games then it becomes 1 win for every 4 or 5 losses.
is this supposed to encourage consistent play? because it gets to the point i feel like id have more fun sifting thrugh my collection of physical cards from 95-2014 and reminiscing they days i had people irl to play with.
this ♥♥♥♥♥ not fun.
The idea is to try and match you with people who are similarly as skilled as you at the game, that way you either A: Don't get constantly matched against newer less skilled players and blow out their backs every single game.
And B: Don't suffer from being abused by super high skilled players over and over again.
MOBAs and Fighting games have been doing this for a very long time, but it's a lot more simple for those kinds of games.
I'm by no means a game designer or developer so I can't touch on the crazy amount of nuance MMR might have in a TCG like MTG, but no matter what it's complicated enough probably, to be very imperfect. We play the hands we're dealt right?
Yeah that's Great if I want to play RANKED which is an option, but "play" is presented like it's random matchmaking which it SHOULD be but it's not. I understand if they are worried it will lead to less skilled people losing all the time, but that's what's happen anyway. Once you hit I what I'm guessing it the max I can with the hidden ranking I am winning 1 out of every 4 matches or less. It FEELS like I am constantly losing so if that's what would happen anyway in total random why not have it be random?
I bet it would be more 50/50 if it was random, hitting the daily/weekly wins would be easier therefore people would spend less actual money.
IRL I used to play FNM with low budget against randos and had Better win/loss rate.
Well see it is for ranked as well. Your rank is your MMR, it's just visible to the public. Hidden MMR is more for people who want to play casually without worrying about people seeing how bad/good their rating actually is.
I know, it kinda sucks, especially for MTG witch is complicated as all hell. But what can ya do?
Oh, you’re losing? Here buy some gems to get some rare cards to help that deck win.
let's say you draw 6 cards from the pool, so 54 left. the last one is the expected card -> 1/54 chance. would be worse if the card is pulled first. 1,85% chance to happen. now we see this over multiple games, which is even more unlikly to happen.
this also was checked on reddit for over 1 million games. proven to be rigged.
Yeah probably to some degree for sure. I may play the game a lot but I'm not blind to the methods used to entice people to open their wallets, but that's very likely just a side effect more than the intent.
I would urge you to re-read my comment. I literally agreed with you...
See it's post like this that lead me to believe that people here have both the reading comprehension and critical thinking skills of gerbils, or just want to argue for the sake of arguing
BTW I never seen that in an opponent.
Keep the pay consumer happy I guess... to the detriment of the casual player.
i made a deck using a boromir, smeagle and that other card that duplicates legendaries, after like 3 wins it starts paring me with people who have the one card that can make boromirs infanate sacrafice combo moot and useless.
fore sure ♥♥♥♥♥ rigged against you
