Matchmaking is completely rigged :(
Was really enjoying this game, won a good 2/3 , 3/4 matches enough to get up to platinum tier 2- then suddenly after a 5 game winning streak, I am matched with players I had no chance beating, knocked all the way down to platinum tier 4 and still being matched with people many tiers above me. I am completely stuck with no option other to fork up the money for more mythic rare cards to compete with all of the high tier decks that are almost exclusively rare / mythic rare cards. It feels very predatory, and after watching many videos on how the match making and shuffling mechanics work, I can't help but feel that it's the end of the line for my advancing in the ranks without paying up.

You don't think that maybe you're just a Platinum level player, and you're right where you should be until you improve? I mean, you admit that there's ways to improve your deck, so you're not working with an optimal build... why do you expect to be able to make it to the top?

I suspect you are in for some serious disappointments in the near future if you really believe buying better cards will make the difference in whether you can get past plat-2 or not.

Improve? I'm talking about a notable and stark change in trend after hundreds of ranked games. It statistically makes no sense for me to suddenly only win 1/6 games after going on so many winning streaks. Go ahead and look up some videos that expose how their matchmaking and shuffling mechanics work, I thought I was crying wolf and gas-lighting myself seeing other people calling it out. It just makes no sense that suddenly everything has switched and I can hardly win any games even though I have been knocked down to the tier that was so easy for me to push through.

I don't understand why everyone has to come in here and accssshualllyyyy at anyone with complaints, their algorithm is glaringly skewed to favor people who spend hundreds of dollars on the game, because why wouldn't they.

Statistically, it makes perfect sense. It is called variance. Anyone that plays poker seriously knows about it. You will get days / weeks where you can't stop winning, then you will get similar periods of time when you can't win a thing.
When you hit a losing streak, you get emotionally affected and continuing to play means you make bad decisions and play sub-optimally. Take a break and come back later.

If you can't handle that, then card games are not for you.

And for whatever reason you want to get higher than platinum? Its totally not worth it, just do daily quest and 4 wins, rest is really optional. You need to be playing for a while to gather more cards to have fun with making some decks and playing them. Again the game is really better to play vs friends, other game modes are full of net decks and try hards that need to boost their ego with mono red decks or discard decks.

Why would there not be a change in the trend as you progress to higher and higher levels? As you increase in rank, you will encounter more and more players of a higher skill level. Tons of people make it past Plat with no problem. Sounds like you're just a Plat player and have found the spot where you belong in the ranking system.

Go ahead and post one or two of these videos you're referencing, I'll gladly break them down and explain to you why they are pure speculation and not representative of what's actually going on in the game.

You're missing the part where I said the trend continued after going down in ranks

It is not rigged. It is designed to mirror your deck. SO you must make a deck with this in mind.

Example: This deck will get blue deck with control; but It is so fast it wins before they can flourish. https://mtgdecks.net/Historic/the-immortal-squee-decklist-by-iron-2066154

Not really mirror, but more like counters and hard counters, I didn't play vs mirror deck yet.

Lots of bad players are stuck in plat. its not the match making.
Fox Jul 1, 2024 @ 7:43am
yes brawl is 100% controlled, the theory was because some cards in brawl were useless without 4 of in the deck yet had such a high cost ment it may have been the same for historic and standard constructed... but having done 100-200 games (which I know is not a huge amount of games but stay with me here) you can make a deck worth 0 and you will still face the most "powerful" make it with all the most "powerful" cards and you will still face mediocre decks, its just too random to pin down.

there are also some other issues to list out and that is deck size, if everything costs points that add up then decks with 250 cards must be facing only the most gross decks???

anyway, there is no question that your deck can feel flooded and starved, shuffle and ramp the game is not in a constant state of "how can I ruin their next draw" also try best of 3 if you do not like your opening hands the game thinks is good for you. because 2 lands never is.
