So the goal is to shift your goals to draft/sealed/midweek/set learning as Arenas purpose, almost like a tool, and casual play, becomes a means to an end, rather than a dull and frustrating point.
So now, naturally, we make casual play fun. I do this by not playing ranked, and brewing random stuff. I have a deck called "5 color crap show" where I play 5 color cards and some random ramps. It has a 45% win rate, but it sure is fun to play. Same with mono colors. Dont follow a meta. Just brew a mono black, red, blue, etc based off what cards are awesome, so I have a mono black deck I brewed called "F U V2" lol.. It has a Sheoldred, obliterator, beseech, bloodletter, rush of dread, the one that mills ten each and pulls a creature from each graveyard etc. It just has all the staples. Now that one has a high winrate% like 62% or something, because its very difficult to go wrong with black mono when you are playing key cards, even if brewed. Eventually youll escape the mono and start brewing dual colored decks fairly decently and its nice not being a follower and just having fun...
Now, of course, I still play ranked because there are packs to be won and I absolutely sauce people with mono blue control and azorius control and its fun af for me personally, so I alternate. Few games of ranked, few games of goofy casual brew, follow my objectives, call it a night and boom. No issues.
My only complain is the shuffle System... there something wrong with it. I have ONE Caldera breaker card yet sometimes even when I mulligan 3 times it still appears. and the mana ratio per shuffle is wrong...
Play best of 3 and you won't have this issue anymore from what I understand.
80%- Some version of counters/soldiers/gondorhorn. Green/white or white/blue
20%- a mix of everything else.
I usually only play it on my phone when doing cardio anyway.
I have more fun on Paper. Here in my city there are Magic stores where players gather to play and make friends. It's much healthier than playing on the computer against decks that may have extremely OP cards. Many decks that exist in Arena, people would never be able to have them on paper because they are too expensive and this I think also helps Paper to be better and more balanced.
The funny thing is that I play other games (obviously) and even if I lose I don't feel the frustration that MTG Arena gives me. MTG Arena forces you to win to be fun, and like I said that at the expense of other players' frustration. It's a game that makes you feel stupid when you lose.
I have 3 extremely OP poison decks. Many times I drop the first creature and the opponent simply gives up or roping. I don't really blame these people, some decks are just bitter to play against.
but this software is so incredibly bad, frustrating and unfun, it's crazy how you can turn the best card game to the worst experience possible
I don't let any of that stuff bother me. Either I'll simply concede or wait through it. I'm already here, wasting time playing a video game when there are thousands of other things I could be doing anyways, so might as well.
OP I strongly suggest taking a break from MTGA and trying out Yu-Gi-Oh master duel for a bit and really get a feel for just how bad a card game can get, come back and notice just how amazing this card game is at its core.
There is no perfect I win every game deck, the fun of a strategy game like MTG can be what you make of it. are some/most people toxic? hell yeah they are, all online games are like that..
