Magic: The Gathering Arena

MtG Arena is one of the worst online card games out there.
Arena has nothing to do with Paper Magic. Too annoying, too stressful, too loud and an absolutely bad match finding.
Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of playing Paper Magic knows what I mean. I only use Arena to look at various cards or as a deck builder. I also believe that there is something wrong with ARENA.
I've been playing MAGIC since 1995 and have seen and experienced a lot. Of course there are professionals out there. But with Paper Magic I can choose which skill level I want to play against. But not at ARENA. There you play with a beginner deck against a fully developed tournament deck. No chance. Actions are followed by confusing animations and you lose the total overview. Opponents sit out their turn until the last second and then make their move. In the hope that you will give up the game in between. Apparently they're trying to breed a fast clicking game like GWENT. But that has nothing to do with MtG.

I am absolutely disappointed with Arena.

I agree, this game feels rigged most of the time.
Bizeboy Jun 15, 2024 @ 3:01pm
Why cant they just remove the rigging and stop hand fixing mana swamping and all around just screwing with match-making - there is nothing naturally occuring in this game and they think we can't see it. Alot of you are dumb and literally can't tell. Another group of you cant tell becuase your so new to the game youve never played like a million games on table top literally. They shut down their own servers when the highest requested changed for MONTHS on MONTHS was to change the shuffler and they refused to even acknowledge it. for all the PR they put out on YT they NEVER address the shuffler being rigged. They Dont Care. Thats why all they are doing is selling selling selling. We need to boycott them publicly in mass for anything to change . They ran from the truth on their own servers and here we are on steam. Think about that

Because the rigging doesn't exist, and the shuffler isn't rigged.

Matchmaking is reasonably fine and has nothing to do with the shuffler.

in current state it's trash. they do not care about a balanced and fun product, it's designed as a quick cash grab. more and more sets released per year, more and more pay modes with totally rigged cards. i mean, "heist", come on, they really think this is fun? it's like giving the bullies bats to beat up the rest.

pay drafts or play the crap modes which are zero fun. makes the whole collection useless, so i wonder why to invest at all. the fun of deck building is very limited.

i mean, 3rd day to finish "kill 25 creatures" quest and progress is at 10, after 30+ games. ONLY blue and black decks juggling cards around and doing nothing important for player interaction. after they did their 5 minute turns, you ate your pizza and raided 3 bosses in wow, boom, game lost - or won.

even red decks started to use blue cards, so they can cycle and pull any card they want. those endless turns totally ruin the game, you can't even play a round in your breaks anymore.

if someone plays such decks in RL, they will meet a fist per card draw

I'm not trying to be rude but this is a load of BS. I used to be a professional CCG'er back in the golden days of ccgs and magic has been on a massive down hill slide sense original mirrodon... Magic in it's current state is WORSE THAN Yugiho, (and i f@#$ing hate that crap... so if you don't believe me i can break it down as a game designer as to why, whenever you have time to chat) But... Wizards did gain a lot of that games overspending adhd (and cheating) player base added to magic's player base, and only the cost of the games integrity and intellectual value. Hell wasn't their a season so bad even starshittyshames (code name for star city games) wouldn't touch it???

I wouldn't say it's worse, granted it's becoming more and more like Yu-Gi-Oh

no card game is worse then yugioh unless it also has turn 1 wins which only paper historic seems to have that when it comes to mtg.

Hearthstone is not better than Magic bro chill lmao

I'm with you in this one, the forced 50/50 win rate games make you just trash the computer,
I play it because I like MTG, but arena is THE WORST way to play Magic...
And the state of the game is not fun for anyone, at this point you just play dices and have more fun
Chiefin Aug 7, 2024 @ 4:18pm
Its not like playing MTG in person, rather you play vs the game itself and how they designed it. Half the fun these days I find is conceding and then on to the next game. Doing that will let you enjoy the game in a fashion nearly similar to a balanced game.

Someone should make a game that's only 3rd edition, everyone knows it's only 3rd edition, everyone is there to play 3rd edition.
joesephjOSEPH Aug 8, 2024 @ 12:49am
ive been playing the card game just as long as you and arena delivers the same experience for me that i ran into entering many large events with tier decks.
in paper magic you dont get to choose which skill you are playing vs unless you are casually playing with friends. if you enter an event most likely everyone there using tier decks minus 1-2 if you're lucky.

on arena you CAN also casually play with friends. just add your friends. ask on the steam forums and stuff or use one of the extensions that lets you add players you match with.

in paper magic people run the timer in tournaments a lot. its annoying. people get annoyed at the players even if they aren't in the match. control decks especially will run the clock in bad match ups.

there is a lot to complain about when it comes to this game and wotc. you are missing the mark though

i completely agree. magic is not a complex game especially not the most complex game in the world lol. often times it barely plays like a competitive game. and yes it has been since mirroden there has been so many decisions effecting the game in a negative way. luck factor has increased, non games have increased despite the effort to print cards that reduce flood and skrew with mana. magic is a bit of a derpy little loop once you get it all down and you are just running an odds machine. very now and then you have some decisions that can take a bit but its not that demanding of a game. there are much more complex and difficult games you can play.
