Magic: The Gathering Arena

Magic: The Gathering Arena

Do you guys ever play for just fun
Lets say you already have your 15 daily wins. I play the game, but then concede the win since winning meant nothing and I was just playing for fun. Show I have a lethal swing or have the winning damage trigger on stack then let them win for their progression.

I'm sure there are those of you that play past 15 but are grinding ranked instead.

I don’t really play ranked at all anymore. I just have fun in unranked playing decks I like and aren’t “meta”.
Playing for fun is the most rage inducing thing you can do. You know, like playing just to see what some cards do but noone allows anything to stay on field. Or like you are going to concede anyway because victory doesn't offer anything but you decided to win just because a guy plays meta in unranked.
Built a Temur deck based around the plot mechanic and big creatures yesterday. Was nowhere near consistent, with a sub-50% win rate so far - but was superb fun to play.

Winning with a 40/40 Hydra, or multiple Terror of the Peaks triggers just makes me happy.
I usually crush out my dailies in Standard Ranked, and then if I wanna play for fun I'll switch to Historic Brawl.

Those kind of brewed decks are the best. The lows don't feel too low because you already knew it probably wouldn't do well often, but man the highs are super high when it comes together.
Deja vu thread eh?

honestly this is a underrated question. the amount of people who "must win" to have fun in most games these days is kinda sad.

the amount or sore losers and sore winners in most online games is silly. the amount of toxic players is really out of hand and it just spreads endlessly like a infection.

not saying everyone is like that, but a majority are. cannot take a loss without getting upset cannot take a win gracefully. and I will be honest I have thrown away the win in ranked matches because I liked what the opponent was playing/doing

playing for the fun of it is a lost art.
I kinda assume all my games are played for fun. If I don't enjoy them then what the heck is this game doing on my hard drive?

MTG is super fun. MTGA is the least fun game.

I understand the people complaining about grinding in this game, even though "grinding" is literally just playing the game, because this game and the decks like board wipe spam etc. make this a CHORE to play, even if you win against said deck, it's just an unbelievably boring dull waste of time where you do the same thing over and over until someone runs out of a resource, or you just lose because you are playing against aggro red (which has gotten unbelievably buffed up with the latest expansion) or other decks designed to prevent an actual game from happening.

This is even more true because the quest system will be of colors you don't have, making you play a weak deck to complete, that you likely didn't spend wildcards on.

And then the people on the forums complain about people that don't like their fresh off the internet copy-pasted deck and get offended that others want to, you know, actually play magic, when they want to play MTG, and not play non-games.

Arguably those who are just grinding and stop playing after finishing their dailies are playing for rewards and not for fun. Not the topic I wanted to discuss. I was looking to see if there are people who play without rewards. Are you guys so conditioned behaviorally that you can't enjoy the game without promise of rewards. If thats the case, I think you have an unhealthy relationship with games you are playing.

I sometimes play games back to back despite having finished weeklies and dailies. I'm a timeless rat though, hard to justify playing that format for anything other than just fun.
Only if I am drafting. I don't see how anyone could find constructed and it's horrible matchmaking to ever be fun. How could it be fun when it's a quest grinding arena?

It's not real fun playing against someone trying to complete a daily quest with no win conditions in their deck.

Playing ranked makes the grind take longer by causing your win rate to drop by matching you to tougher decks the higher you climb. Enjoy the extended losing streaks that will spill over into the non-ranked arena because you climbed higher than gold in standard ranked.

We are conditioned from birth to stop having fun and grind out rewards, whether they be grades in school, wages from working, etc. After all, if you play a game and not get something out of it, why are playing in the first place? It’s just a waste of time and you could be doing something more productive in life. The grind at least gives you illusion you are marching towards something.

Yes, but the grind is INSANE! This new set (otj) has 84 mythic cards in the pool. Only 20 show up in the collection. The other 60 don't show up. The Big Score mythic cards do not show up in your collection AND THEY ARE STANDARD LEGAL.

The only way you can see 66.6% of the mythic cards in this set, is to single the bonus sheets out in your deck filter.

The amount of packs you have to open is insane. I'm sitting at 90 packs and 93% complete with the otj set. Even if it says in your profile that the collection is 100% finished you may be missing half the mythics from the set and not even realize it.

I can't think of a more confusing way of presenting a new set.... an invisible standard section.
