Magic: The Gathering Arena

The Mastery Pass for Arena is one of the worst in gaming.
Specifically the one that goes to 90 and does not allow you to miss a week or so.

IDK about you guys, but I no longer even have time to complete the pass. They went from being pretty decently easy to padding out the length of the pass to the point that if you miss any weeklies or dailies you are basically done for the pass. I think I made it to 70 on the last one.

They almost never have freebies and XP anymore. It seems like they enjoy making players slave their game, and quite honestly it is driving people away.

Destiny 2 and Apex you can literally miss a MONTH or more if you want lol. Here? You start missing more than 10 days of dailies and good luck.

This new season we only go to 70.

The idea that I am supposed to literally log into this game almost every day and never miss a week is preposterous.

Do people actually enjoy this mastery pass anymore? I don't main this game, but I still play it a ton, and I can't even finish the pass due to work. Why are we punished for having lives?

Interestingly, I find 90 to be too short a pass as I often go way over into the uncommons. I'd much rather it be short if it were filled more fully and generously but having it be short and also giving a bunch of old packs that I don't want is rather the opposite of what I'd like.

I feel you about the time investment issue but imho better long than short. At least for me.

It would be nice if the pass allowed those who needed it a leisurely pursuit of rewards while still allowing those of us with more time in the game to get the most of it. Perhaps not locking the cosmetics per set (the ones in the special graphic) into a 3 month period but making them available for the year? I don't know.

Simple idea make the pass easier to complete lol? This is not a long or short thing. Complete is complete. Right now completion of this pass when at 90 is just for hardcore daily players and nobody else.

If you need something to do then you play Ranked or do whatever else. The pass should not be this hard to complete missing a week lol.

Its definitely one of the worst yea. Time-gating the amount of XP you can earn on top of having the amount needed to complete it be pretty high. You can't miss more than a week usually on these passes and still complete them.
FWIW i have never enjoyed mastery passes/battle passes of any kind. They're all meant to create FOMO and keep engagement up as high as possible for as long as possible.

This, somebody actually who understands what is going on. Usually, I just get muppets on Reddit immediately downvote tell me I have plenty of time yadda yadda. This is LITERALLY one of the worst mastery passes in gaming. Worse than ALL the BR games. It's crazy how more people don't speak up about it, but that's the age we live in, the age of muppet consumers.

I hate all things "pass" related in video games....I shelled out cash and bought some decent cards. Sadly I can't really progress beyond this because of how this game is setup....you're forced to do drafts to continue earning which is about as much fun as nothing to me as I lack any creativity with deck building and simply find fun decks or strategies to play with.

Oh make no mistake you will shell out money for this game unless you life it lol. Standard and draft as you said are playable, but don't ever trust the numbers. Draft and matchmaking are completely manipulated.

Standard is the easiest thing to play properly i guess, but you still need some help getting those cards.

Standard is the most expensive format to get started in, as well as the most expensive format to stay relevant in. New players should avoid it like the plague for exactly that reason, it takes a long time to build a collection, much longer than it takes for Standard to rotate. Especially with the rate that new sets come out.

Wouldn't timeless technically be more expensive? Or is it because newer flavor of the month cards are jacked in prices and ultimately their rng in the packs?

Timeless and Historic, you build a deck one time and you have it forever, just upgrading slightly as you go. Standard, you build a deck, upgrade it, then throw it in the trash to start all over whenever the newest set is OP in a way that doesn't fit your current deck. Because there are so many fewer cards, there are so many fewer viable decks as well.

Sure passes are "long" but the last 20 levels are just fluff stuff anyway.
The value is in the first half.

If it wouldnt be so late right now I would give the OP a lesson in basic capitalism in connection with f2p games. But since its allready 12p-m- I just say this: Shut up and quit whining and give them all your money ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!!! /Thread closed

Oh maybe you didn't see the update. /commands don't work on Steam anymore. :p

Just don't buy the mastery pass until you're already at a level where you believe it's worth it. For the current mastery, to me that'll be level 29 (I'm currently at 8).

Then there's more goodies for people who play a lot. Seems fine to me.
If you do well with the draft token you can play for free. You usually get back 1000 or so gems just reaching high enough levels. So it's a better monetization than other battle passes that don't let you. And when I do buy it it's only 10$ since I have 1/2 the gems from the last one. The only one you spend 20 on is the first one.

Not even that one. Use gold to play draft/quickdraft, get both cards and gems, use gems to unlock mastery pass.
