I dont think it is a big problem, because control decks are just part of the deck archetypes, that MtG brought up. Every deck is sometimes or more often a chore to play against. Learn to beat them.
The problem is stale synergies and wincons. For newer players it's 100% okay though because they have to go up against the same exact thing. After a year or two it's best to try getting creative and have fun with it.
for literally the very thing you were just complaining about in the sentence you stated before this one? tbh, it might be boring for you or others, but control is really the only way to stop people from playing cards or using them. i play a different style of control where you get to play your cards but you will never attack me with them.
this is why unranked is better imo. not much better there. probably some of the worst time wasters but at least there's some variety to be seen.
few options here and a reason why i see a lot of mana ramp decks. either run mana ramp or use cheap creatures that tap for land. it's like putting out 2 land in 1 turn.
have you seen the ridiculous bs they've been coming out with? of course i wanna stop you from playing that card. Oh boy infinite cycle of taking 1 life until i reach 0 and have to sit there and wait for every effect to resolve just because you hit me 1 time with a 1/1. or just because i blocked it. or, oh boy your turn will never end. might as well get up and go take a dump while you play only with yourself. again, yeah, i want you to not play those cancerous cards.
any time i'm not playing a control deck of some kind and play a normal deck, for some reason the game decides to always put me against mono black decks that just so conveniently pull out every kill, removal and exile card while always somehow having 4 pilfers in their hand from the start of the game. it is becoming obnoxious to play the game. that's why there's so many control decks being used.
Try to see what your deck struggles the most against. What sorts of things does it crumble when interacting with? If it's too slow then try adding either cheaper creatures to buy time or spells that let you deny your opponents resources (counterspells are fantastic, though kill spells and bounce spells also buy you time).
See what you're commonly facing and plan accordingly. If you find yourself facing a lot of enchantment heavy decks then try slotting in some removal for them! See what you can run in your deck's colors for dealing with those problems, some are better at it than others however - green hates enchantments for some reason.
Check your mana curve. If you find yourself in the position of not having enough mana a lot, try to adjust the average cost of cards in your deck. Cut a few of the more expensive cards that aren't really necessary, or if you have a lot of extra mana then maybe put some more in! If you find you get hit with mana floods (too many land draws) often then cut a land or two before testing more matches, might save you the headache!
Finally (and most importantly) you should try to identify what it is your deck is *supposed* to be doing to win and ask yourself "is it doing this really?" If you can't answer that question with a yes - or answer it at all - then you need to go back and figure out why that is. A deck that just gains a lot of life won't win the game, just prolong it until you run out life gain but a deck that uses that life gain to generate creature tokens? That can win you the game, you just need enough tokens to swing for lethal. If you're making a lot of foods, try using a card that can turn them into damage! Want to be a psycho and run even more lands? Try using landfall triggers to boost your creatures or burn your opponent!
The last thing I'll say is to remember that you aren't playing against bots (probably) so you won't win every match, every win for you means an opponent lost. Don't sweat it too much, just vibe and enjoy making stuff you like! Maybe grab some friends together if you want to just throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks!
And with a smooth B01 shuffler, you can be sure this game is polarizing games like you have never seen before. Either winning by a huge margin or losing by a huge margin, there is no middle ground.
If this game was poker, you would have people pulling out straight royal flush every 100 hands. That's how trash this game is designed.
I guess you can just play starter deck duel in Arena to get the same feel
Your comments on deck diversity in Platinum Ranked tell me you're playing a bad format. Swap to Historic or Timeless, you'll find a lot more deck variety.
You ever gone against Avacyn Angel of Hope paired with Vanquish of the horde, and Armageddon? or Jace The Wallet Sculptor as a pure mill deck... simple way put control exists for a reason
You yourself even said you can run bad decks but its only fun for so long, meaning you want to win, but you seem to have a problem when other players want to win? Why would anyone want to play those bad decks if you dont? I can never take complaints like this serious because they all read like 'i just want to win with the least resistance possible'
