Toxic
What are people's views on this - Personally, I hate it and think it's the worst idea they have ever come up with. As soon as an opponent plays a Toxic card against me, I instantly resign the game. I refuse to play against it.

Never lost once to a toxic deck, seems pointless unless you have a lot of proliferate. Most I have ever gotten was like 6 or 7 counters and by turn 10.

Not a fan of poison counters. That said Toxic isn't the worst form. For objectionable mechanics that create tons of table salt I look to things like Annihilator and never ending turns (Nexus of Fate style)

Pretend each poison counter is 2 damage, block, remove their creatures or race them just like you would if they didnt have toxic.
Toxic is only really stronger than regular damage if you were counting on life gain to stay alive.

I think the worst is counterspells. And infect is worse than toxic.

I think its an annoying strategy. Poison has always been an annoying strategy, especially when it had the better version Infect instead of Toxic. I wouldn't say its the worst idea, that goes to either Dredge or Storm for sure. But Poison is still a trash mechanic either way.

Less now with Cavern of Souls being reprinted and every creature deck running them

I just went up against a toxic deck. They just thew out Rotpriest, threw Royal Treatment to make it hexproof, then every turn cast something on it so I got poison counters. I gave up turn 5 when they finally blocked with it and tossed out Tamiyo's Safekeeping to keep it around. I was playing Mono-Green, so what could I do? I didn't get my fight spell, so it was pretty much GG from one card.

Jokes on him though, I was just in it to get attacks in for my daily.

Yeah, that's nice.
Infect was already so powerful that most playgroups rule 0 banned it. Toxic is generally more powerful than Infect for winning the game (but weaker overall) because it gives more poison counters per power of creature usually. In terms of bad ideas, WotC already KNEW this was a bad idea before it came out and did it anyway, which gives it even more bad idea bonus points. A mistake can be forgiven, this is just idiocy. But it's not the only thing they've done that with... Mark Rosewater himself said that Storm was such a big mistake that it will never come back. Then it did come back, AND now there's Mutate, which is creature Storm but for the entire match instead of just one turn. Now, it's not better than Storm, to be clear, but it's another example of them knowing bad ideas are bad but doing them anyway.
