New to MTGA Please Help
Ok so spent about 4-5 hours looking for a deck i thought would be fun to play. I made sure it was going to be competitive in standard ranked and bought some wildcards to complete the deck which was about $60.00 to get all the cards i needed.

So now i have crafted all the cards i needed and i was ready to go play some standard ranked right? Wrong!

I discovered that i could not que due to "Non-Format cards (5)" And yes my deck is set to standard. How do i tell what cards are the ones that aren't allowed? It shows me nothing at all in terms of any indicator as to what cards are now "illegal"

Fair to say im quite annoyed because the deck i chose was able to be played in standard 11 days ago? Am i seriously missing something here or did i just scam myself out of $60.00? Im not new to card games and know fairly well about the seasonal stuff with cards becoming obsolete and unplayable in standard after a few years but im seriously baffled on what to do here

Any help is appreciated

Which cards are not legal in standard? Normally, you can't find cards that are not in the format you selected. Arena sets it to alchemy normally, which is a bit more restrictive, but with some different cards than standard. You have probably made an alchemy deck. Which is still a viable format which you can play ranked games with.

Also, if you need help with a good and cheap standard deck, there are plenty of ways to build strong enough decks that require no rares or mythics. What kind of playstyle are you interested in?

Edit: If you want to post the decklist, there's probably a way to make it standard legal and stronk.

Edit the deck, click the deck box and you'll see an additional menu that lets you select the deck's format. Set it to Standard and the cards which are the issue will be indicated.

There was no rotation and no new ban announcements. You most likely chose cards that were legal in a different mode like Alchemy but not Standard-legal.

Ok so after Duplicating the deck 20 times and removing a set of cards 1 by 1 i found that these 5 cards were the culprits

Kumano Faces Kakkazan
Play With Fire
Voldaren Epicure
Bloodthirsty Adversary
Sokenzan Crucible of Defiance

The problem is some of these cards are a must have for the aggro deck i was building, I have also checked multiple standard meta deck websites to see what cards people have swapped out in order to actually be able to play standard ranked BUT i see they are all using the cards that i CANNOT use??????? This is becoming way harder than it should be as im getting mixed responses from the web about what cards i can and cant use

After persevering and troubleshooting this on the internet for hours trying to figure out what the hell was going on with the deck i will say this game is not "New" user friendly at all, infact im getting gacha vibes now because i almost did give up on it all together and tanked 60 bucks

Those are standard legal cards. You are probably trying to play alchemy (or the deck is marked as alchemy)

Open your deck and go to details, then on the format list select standard

If you read my first post i state that "And yes my deck is set to standard"

Spoken to streamers aswell and i swear im the only one with this issue? no one can fix it and i dont know why its doing this..

If i remove these cards below then i can use the deck. But then it wont work properly
Kumano Faces Kakkazan
Play With Fire
Voldaren Epicure
Bloodthirsty Adversary
Sokenzan Crucible of Defiance

Even though the above cards are standard legal so im baffled here on how i cant fix this

Your deck may be set to standard, but it really sounds like you are trying to join the Alchemy ranked queue (the client defaults to Alchemy when you click the Play button - you have to actively select Standard).

Also, you should have been able to build that deck just using the wildcards you get from opening all the free packs the game gives you - unless you used those on something else.

How do I change it to standard then? I thought it just qued you for whatever deck format you are using. So eg. Standard deck format ques you into ranked standard. Brawl deck format ques you for brawl ect. If it’s something so simple as changing the tanked que I’ll be so mad with myself hahah. I will try this when I get home but in the meantime are you able to give me the steps to change the que?

Thankyou in advance

You start at the home page in the top menu. In the right bottom there's the play button. Click it once, a menu shows up on the right. At the top of that rightside menu that just showed up, there's events, find match and recently played. Click find match. There's ranked, play and brawl just under the options at the top. You get goodies for playing ranked, so you might aswell, but in the play menu there's also option to play the format you want. In both those there's the options for standard in the play option it's standard play, in the ranked option it's standard ranked. You can select your deck and click play in the bottom right.

Also in the events menu in the top of the right menu, there's often stuff where you can get free cards. For the next 15 hours, there's a midweek magic available. Those are free to play, doesn't cost gold or gems and you can win 2 rares/mythics and a cosmetic. You should try to play those to add to your collection. In the events there's also the option to quickdraft, which is the most efficient way to complete new sets, about 2 weeks after a new set is released we can quickdraft that set and I'd advise you to save up your gold for that. In the events there's also the starter deck duel, which is fantastic for new players to complete dailies. You play with preconstructed decks that are available to and the same for everyone. They are quite unbalanced though, some are really bad and some are somewhat okay to play.

Ok so basically the issue i found after looking through reddit threads was because i was in "Spark" rank i haven't unlocked any of the other options besides bot games or Alchemy ranked. You can actually go into account settings and unlock all games modes by skipping the tutorial (only thing left i needed to do was get to bronze in alchemy with the free decks they give you) So once you skip that part you now have access to everything. I wasn't going crazy after all.

In the end it was something as simple as that and my $60.00 is now saved! Without you i wouldn't of fixed it so thankyou!!
