Only play bot matches [Solved]

Anyone have an idea why I can only play against bots?

I think you can open settings and select "unlock all game modes" or something like that

Finish the tutorial first, you have Challenges for every Color.
Once that's out of the way, you'll be able to duel other players.

there is also an event for 10 2-colored starter decks and a ranked tutorial vs. sparky where you need to rank up 2 times

So I completed the color challenge, there are green check marks on all of the battles for each color and yet it only allows me to do bot battles

I've been playing this game for a long time now and I can't really remember how it goes at first. But indeed, it seems to me that you have to complete all the color challenges to unlock the games against human players.

I can't seem to find that setting anywhere, I'm assuming I need to complete the color challenges but even after doing so it won't let me do anything but bot challenges.

There is only the bot match against sparky. But no other real "bot" matches

Those arent bot matches... those are spark rank games. you play against other new players and rank up before you unlock other modes. you also have two color decks you can unlock which is also against real players.

Go to the Home screen and mouse over the blue quest. You have to complete Sparky's Challenge (3 wins vs AI) to progress to the Starter Deck Duel event queue that will unlock the 10 dual-color starter decks. This is a dual-color precon queue against other players that only uses the dual-color starter decks. It's good for new players because you can even complete your dailies here.

Alternatively, if you're experienced in MTG and want to skip all this, just hit ESC (Options) -> Account (bottom left link) -> Unlock Play Modes

Getting the 10 dual-color starter decks has changed recently and you now get free golden packs after buying 10 of the latest main set (e.g. buying 'March of the Machine' with gold. 'Aftermath' also contributes to golden packs but is a supplemental set so not as good), but the rest of the following guide should still have useful info:

BTW, as a tip, you do not need to do more than 4 wins per day as the rewards are heavily front-loaded, and this will prevent burnout. Completing the main daily quest (don't need to win for the main quest, just make a deck with cheap spells to quickly cast the required spells to finish quest) and then 4 wins with any deck will get you enough gold for a free pack. If you get packs, try to get the latest main set like 'March of the Machine' as that will contribute towards you getting a free golden pack.
