Recently there has been sense that it might be coming at some point in the near future, or at least some multiplayer format. Nothing concrete, hints here and there in some of their communications. I think/hope they realise they need to offer something more than sweaty 1v1s.

I have very fond memories of playing pick-up games of 2HG on Magic Duels.

People would absolutely throw money at them for a fully implemented EDH (or even if it were just 4 player Historic Brawl).

Is mandatory a 2v2 mode in Arena if they want to get more player base.
The problem with 2headed giant is, they had it for duels, but there was voice chat.

Wouldn't be the same with only emotes lol

It's true they'd definitely need some way of basic communicating, but I think if they just showed what cards you and your partner were highlighting (or showed each others mouse pointer as a floating hand/cursor) that would go a long way. But also yes the ability to say 'i'm going to use this spell on this permanent' or 'we need to remove this thing' would probably be great.

Not exactly massive obstacles, just some UI additions.

Honestly I don't remember using voice chat with Duels at all and managed to do fine! I always used to queue in with an all-in supporting deck (protect and enhance my partners stuff, whatever they were doing) and it was so much fun getting to play that role.

this is an utter joke... companies should be looking to attract more people to their game and yet here we have this... years after release - total disregard for the most wanted feature in the game

never. even though they include cards in the game for your decks that would go great for this game mode. tired of having cards say "for each opponent" who tf else am i playing against? its 1v1 obviously i can only have 1 opponent so the effect can only effect them.

but also, in before valve jumps in here and shuts the thread down because "its old" and people are still discussing it. i guess making a brand new topic about the exact same thing makes "more sense" apparently.

Yeah... I'm pretty sure that's gonna be introduced on Arena around the same time as Commander (or, perhaps, 4-player Brawl.) As in, I am very sure that the client, as it is now, isn't able to handle having four players at the same time like that.

Couldn't even imagine what it would like on mobile. A crowded battlefield in 1v1 is bad enough.

Is 2HG available on MTGO/MODO? Maybe you should try there!

That's because you can have more than one opponent in Paper Magic (Commander is a popular format, after all.) The cards as printed in Arena *SHOULD* reflect what the cards are in their Cardboard version.

Wont happen. The majority of the money they make is from whales, who are inherently as intelligent as what you find under a rock. That means that they make sure denial will always be the top playstyle on arena, because it caters to the stupid people perfectly. Denial only wins in 1v1, so they wont make multiplayer because they will lose the whales if the stupids have to think in any way to win a game instead of just spamming counters and kills

It was. They took it away. It worked and was a vibrant niche format and they took it away to make more room for... nothing.

It was cold blooded murder of the multiplayer formats not commander.

The irony is the next year they put out a 2hg focused set Oath of the Gatesuperfriends Justice League of Ravnica (or however you spell it.)

I would believe that you could simply restrict such game modes to PC and simply not being available to play on mobile

Couldn't even begin to imagine the mess/drama that would cause if you couldn't play certain mods on mobile that you can on PC. I doubt that would make it worth the effort.

i'm aware of that. i'm only commenting on the irony of having multiplayer formatted cards in a game that is exclusively 1v1.

you think more people would quit then new ones would flock to the game?

I don't think there is nearly the demand for 2HG that folks on this forums think there is. Having a format available on one platform, but not another is an absolute mess from a PR standpoint. I don't think Hasbro/WotC can justify it well enough to satisfy the playerbase.

And this is all assuming that Arena itself (PC or not) could even handle 2HG. They may need a whole new client for it as far as we know. I doubt that it is something you can just easily patch in.

All-in-all I don't think it is worth the effort or investment to do it. If MTGO couldn't keep it on their platform, then why would Arena want it?
