1. If its meant to give players a fast paced mutated experience of STD cards. I does not work. What it truly is, is an expensive resource drain format that can garnish them more revenue.
2. It is a bad and brutal way for new players to learn the game.
3. Alchemy fix-If you want an Arena fast paced mode. Then set up the Alchemy mode in that format. Shorten the mana, shorten the turn sequences, limit the over all game turn max.
Design cards for alchemy only, that are not slight variations of STD cards.
For example, 30 card decks, max mana is 4, 12 turns. Here you have created an aggro format for Alchemy only, like SNAP (which is the intent of alchemy anyway) that is fast paced, quick and painless. If the solution is simply when they ban tons of alchemy cards to switch the decks to STD, what was the point of Alchemy. It is greed at its worst.
You want to create Alchemy in its own unique mode. Give that mode its own unique cards. The issue they have created is as the make decks to the format, they ban them for new decks, so the alchemy library has no sustainability. Another prime example of this is the deck Sylvan Wisdom, a new Elf, Scry draw deck, but if you try to add of change say with different Elves. There are none to support any alterations to the deck. You try switching that deck to STD, you cannot.
4. If they ban entire deck lists and cards making them invalid in Alchemy to switch to STD. Then in a way there no way to get back the rare and uncommon price tag used to build specific cards for that mode. That is its trap.
5. Store is designed to convert alchemy cards into upgraded cosmetics and yet it does not highlight which alchemy cards you have to do that.
6. STD is probably the best mode to learn for new players, but with such massive libraries it is a detriment of learning the game where new players are taken advantage of by intermediate and expert players that have vast libraries.
7. Alchemy is simply mutated STD cards. For example. The Standard WIzard Class (Blue) Enchantment, compare to the Alchemy Wizard Class (Blue) that has a lower mana cost to its third effect of the enchantment. Basically a mutated OP version of the STD card.
They thought they were being cute in creating mutated versions of OP STD mechanics into its own mode. When they merely offered this for resource costs and garnishing sales in their store.
That simple. Why many traditionalists do not support it.
This game is not designed for the MTG community experience. There is no trading, no real contact lists of friends and gamers, and not point to any of the modes that are simply there for experts to take advantage of those new players, not even in their selecting against bot mode. Here you have all the old tournament modes set up but not for the new player's experience. This game is brutal to new players who don't utilize the gem system and gold systems properly and feed into the FOMO needs of gacha.
and that are the differences in Alchemy and STD.
What's the proper way to use them?
Don’t give wotc money or attention and go play something else, lol.
I would only play the alchemy decks they give you and if you alter them, with cards you have. I would not feed this mode, unless it utterly changes. Once you start wasting your crafting on this mode, you will lose those resources.
I agree with Jam-jars here. My son stopped making decks in alchemy after this last patch. He gave up.
That is fine, but don't waste your crafting on improving their decks. Play it as is. What I used to do for my son was alter it to STD, then tweak the alchemy cards to a STD build and crafting that deck, but not with cards that I know maybe invalid later. Once the nullify those alchemy decks, that is a ton of crafted cards wasted. Why most play other formats.
Don't waste gems, crafting materials on Alchemy.
The format does not fit what they are trying to do. Alchemy should be a fast blitz card mode with its own cards, don't buff or alter STD cards. Create a unique game mode for those cards only, now you don't have to invalid them when you create new Alchemy decks. You allow that library to grow and only ban when necessary.
Until they do that, it will be the same format fit to garnish money.
Something like this: (Rough idea)
ALCHEMY
Turn 7 max
Mana to idk 7 or whatever mana cap you wish)
Create a Card max deck size-say 20 or 30
Create fun unique cards and mana costs to that blitz style. Where you have more 1-5 mana cost cards
You cam limit the amount of counters and spells, keeping it simple. OR cut down the sequence in a turn to a basic few.
This will increase the fast pace blitz style of magic, stay within the format. You can tweak the rules slightly,
Alchemy cards are not permitted in any other formats. Still a sellable viable commodity, with upgrading the card looks, and whatever fun cosmetics you wish to add.
You never have to delete decks, just keep adding deck ideas and that library.
Something like that, now you create a fun exciting simple, fast paced game mode that you can build and expand on and its not OP due to the turn 7 max limit. Much different than SNAP. Players play fast, in and out, no drama, win tip your cap, lose move on and you make it competitive, but not confrontational.
Make Alchemy fun, not mutated STD. Get out of the STD format.
Yeah I hear ya, he just got sick of their banning their own mode to simple sell stuff. I mean he loved the werewolf theme, and switched his decks to STD, but he can't even make a werewolf alchemy theme deck now. No werewolves. I mean, "There werewolf, there castle!" Its just stupid, and greed.
I totally get why people despise alchemy. It is an awful meta for new players to come in on.
I don't know if my idea would work, but its a start. Make it fun, make it unique with its own meta cards, and boom, you have a huge following with more potential sales, what they did now, is nonsense.
If they kept up with the bans it would be a really fun place. The One Ring being top of the list. Jodah ban next or at least nerf Crucias to not give treasure. A few bans and suddenly soldiers, stompy, boros equip etc are viable again.
The problem is WOTC is real lazy about bans. Modern is dead right now. Legacy only sees play on MOTO and never in person. Historic is dead. Standard got stale because no rotation derp derp derp. Explorer you can play a variety of stuff, but it is the least played format on MTGA
Try talking about bans etc to make alchemy format a better place for everyone and you will get downvoted on reddit hard. Quick way to go negative on karma.
I expressed my take on it. You waste resources deliberately Alchemy in its mode is not really set up for a fast paced arena meta. Its merely mutated std cards. It should be a mode with NEW specific cards for that mode only, people put resources into building these cards, don't penalize them later.
Improve it, and I gave my thoughts on that. You can give your takes on how to improve it and your opinions are always welcome.
