Larger fonts for high resolutions
At higher resolutions the problem is not as much the fonts but everything becomes much smaller.
At 1024x768 it looks nice but the character and the objects in the world are very small, a bit strainy for the eyes.
1. Your monitor size.
2. The resolution you pick.
3. The distance to your monitor.
Considering you don't use a TV you might leave out the third point.
I for one have a 27,5" computer monitor and play the game at 1920x1200. The only problems I encounter are hardly readable prizes in barter menus (which demand a closer look). Aside from that there's nothing troublesome for me.
(Using the Alt key shows objects lying around, so you won't miss them.)
However, you also asked what the most rational setup would be. I'd say test the resolutions with the following thing in mind: Your ingame viewing distance. It might be confusing seeing (a lot) further ahead than you can spot enemies. Maybe try 1366×768 for instance.
Hope this helps.
Thank you very much, you have been very helpful :)
At 1920x1080 everything is too small.
and my screen resolution is 3200x1800. most games I play on 16:9 and that flops to fit my screen perfectly. yeterday when i installed my game I put it to 16:9 and it worked perfectly. now I turn on my game and the 16:9 turns into 800x450 and the only resolution that works is my 3200x1800. but that resolution makes my FPS go to 9. and in 16:9 i had FPS of 30 consistently.
In the install folder (..\SteamApps\common\divine_divinity) try right clicking the div.exe file, select Properties, switch to the Compatibility tab and check off the options to run as administrator and disable display scaling on high DPI settings. Does that help?
I have tested several other resolutions and they didn't improve the graphics. It doesn't seem any sharper on 1920x1080. You see a larger section of the map but it's harder to make out the details. Also the game was developed in a time when 4:3 was standard, so 1024x768 is more like the original experience. 800x600 seems a little blurred on a 23" screen. For full 16:9 I would prefer 1280x720.
