Books in the Bookshelf of Easter Egg area cause crash.
Title says it all. I got into the Easter Egg area in the game, take a rope to go down into the prison, and open up the bookshelf inventory. When I click on a book to read it, CTD every time. I'm worried this might have something to do with this version of the game not having a CD to read from....and that it'll cause the end cutscene to crash the game, too, since that also requires the CD to function.

In case this isn't disc-related, anyone know how to fix this?

This isn't related to not having a CD, AFAIK. Someone else had a crash with these books years ago, and skipping them avoided the problem (or at least the person didn't report back with any other issue they may have had).

That set of 5 books is a German story from the Larian forum before the game was released. There are some details about it in the topic The History of the Lost Kingdom books[www.larian.com], but the links (and updated links) to the English translation are broken.
EDIT: actually, there is still one working link for the English translation[members.shaw.ca].

If you are so inclined, and able, you can read the story outside of the game by opening the file below in a text editor (ignore the binary file warning; just don't re-save) and searching for the term Teil I 4 times (for Teil I, II, III and IV), and then Teil V :

Oh, hey! Thanks for taking the time to respond all the way over here on Steam, Raze! I've seen you all over the place in Larian's forums when Google searches have directed me there, and you seem to be the go-to person for pretty much any bit of information on the Divinity series.

Thanks for the tip on how to get to the books' files outside the game, though I cannot read German either way :D

Also, thank you for linking me to that forum post. I went in thinking I was gonna get a little bit of backstory, but I came out with a much deeper feeling of awe at the community that exists around Larian and the users of the forums that came before. Seriously, thank you for that. :)
