Iona's Dungeon, Impossible?
The place is crawling with liches that drain your health and I am going through what potions I have like potato chips, with 2 floors more ahead of me. In the meantime you can't leave to get more supplies or food, and the place is set up like a maze. I even cheated, going online and printing out a series of maps to chart my absolute shortest route. But I get jumped by life-draining liches, spend all my potions in just a few rooms and I am utterly stuck.

This game sure does like to throw you into situations you aren't expecting, completely ill-prepared, to the point where you can lose hours and hours of game time trying to gather up supplies so you can DO bee-ess like this.

Any pointers for this dungeon, other than going allllll the way back to before I even set foot in Castle Stormfist???

We could give you some advices if we at least know if you play melee/ranged/mage.

And well, i agree with that "throwing" thing, but that's the charm of DD if you ask me. Along with humour, nice plot and and gameplay and... nevermind.

The exit to Iona's dungeon is on the main floor, to the far west. The lower levels opened by reading a scroll on a pedestal are optional, and you can come back for them later.

There are health and mana shrines in the dungeon that you can use to conserve potions. They refill after awhile, so you can keep running back to the start, if you need to.

Iona's dungeon maps: level 1[www.xanlosch.de], starting cell level and levels 2-4[www.xanlosch.de]

If you did the quest for the cook in the castle, he would have given you a shadow potion (strange spice), which could help you bypass some opponents (there is at least one door you need to open on the first level.
A statuette would also help running for the exit (especially frog).

If you find 3 pyramids on pedestals they activate a teleporter pad that takes you to the exit, but a moderately strong opponent appears for each.

Yeah seriously man. One second you're owning it up and the next you're running for your life. I love it!

Did you bring the portable bed? The one you can find in a ruined house north of the farmlands. It is very handy cuz you can sleep wherever you are. The weight is 0 and you can sleep even the the bed is in your inventory box...

Here be some awesome tips.

- If you are melee invest in healing (screw alchemy, you will be swiming in gold if you know how to trade and you can just buy out stuff and have them pay you for it)

- Traders tongue is helpful but not necessary.

- Potions you want to invest in - Restoration, Shadow (anykind), Stamina, Health and Magic potions for early levels.

- DO NOT INVEST IN EMBRACE SHADOW PERKS. Its useless, far better to use the potions.

- Deadly gift is your friend. Level this up ASAP and keep a good stock of Death Scorpions. You wont be sorry.

- Enchanting item is also a must level these up ASAP.

- If you are melee don't waste time on intelligence. A healthy spread over the other three will ensure a well rounded fighter.

- If you are melee DO NOT WASTE TIME ON ANY SPELLS!! You will eventually come across armors that grant you perks with almost full level and merchants and locals have books for sale for skills. I maxed out meteor strikes from books.

- Keep two stacks of Hay in your inventory. this will be impossible early on till you get enough strength. But you got those stones to help out. Note: Once you set up your haypile of bed, its a part of htat area and you cannot put it back in your inventory.

- If you are melee perks that should be maxed: Sword profeciency (axe optional), Damage augments, Defence augments, Death strike, Stun, Reflect missile, Reflect damage. This seems a lot but if you are a warrior you get 2 skill points every 10 levels. Plenty of points to invest into these.

- Secondary perks Shadow: Lockpick (must), (at least 2 levels in pickpocket), Wisdom (level this early to get a good boost in EXP) Elven stamina (optoinal).

- DO NOT waste point on elemental resistance or damage. most equipments have a good offer of resistence. Besides if you follow this combat will not be a problem at all. If you must focus on poision res as it is the most annoying.

- Dexterity is a must for all classes.

Tactics:

- Shadow potions are op as it gives out the max skill on each level. Once consumed you are invisible till you interact with any objects in the environtment including attacking enemies. However, you are free to drink your own potions and use the secondary whirlwind special attack at will. Get to the center and start spamming and they will all come to you.

- Deadly gift is also really OP you can use these with Shadow potions. Gives you a good distraction to explore the area. With aura of command scorpions will follow you like a pet.

- Basically go invisible and spam. Stamina goes fast so keep potions handy. Elven stamina helps but I found plenty of armor that gives you a good levels to this perk.

- Augments are weak at first but eventually get really op. DO NOT NEEDLESSLY WASTE THEM ON THROWAWAY EQUIPMENT. NOT EVEN LOWE END ONES.

- You must save often. If you are patient then reloading games can offer more potent RNG rolls on an item (or the item itself). Note: items get static if place them in your inventory. Save before Iding item or picking them up. it helps if you rekill bosses and mini bosses. If there are bosses in this game I haven't noticed, my tactic basically insures almost harmfree experience.

Disclaimer:
This is based on the warrior class. I have not experimented with backstab and shadow combo.

- Hope your copy is updated and the game breaking bugs don't persist.

TLDR: Just quaff your dumb shadow potions and spin like madman with special move. You wil be cleaning house in no time. Ionas dungeon too much?? Toss in a death scorpion and lock the door. Enjoy the far off effects as your exp bar fills up.

A hay bed made on the ground can not be moved, but you can make one inside a container (or your inventory).

Free skills, and spell books you can buy[www.larian.com]

I learned Alchemy, to mix restoration potions[www.larian.com] (even if you have lots of gold to buy potions, health and mana potion eventually become much less effective than restoration potions).

The passive Stun skill is very handy for a warrior.

mmm guess I should have specified what potions were the most potent. You are right I found stamina and restoration potions the most effective. I never did figure out what elixirs were good for or those purple and green potions. no descrptions. I beat the game a few hours back and contemplating giving Beyond Divinity a shot. I can get around the two player mechanic but I heard a lot of negative things about this game. I read some of the other posts and trying to decide if I should just skip it and move to Eco Draconis... I generally play test everything to make sure they work befor starting going through them and that looked pretty damned good even by todays standards.

Also I hear there are two expansions to Divinity 2. Does the anthology version of the dev mode cover that or do I need to look into to them. Also are they worth it? This is all in preparation for that awesome looking Original Sin.

Divinity 2 has only one expansion. If you have "Dragon Knight Saga" or "Director's Cut" you're already in possesion of this expantion. "Ego Draconis" is version without expansion.

About Beyond Divinity having bad opinion - it's worse than Divine, but still very good game.

Also, "opinions, opinions" - i remember Divinity 2 having hella low note in one of trustworthy game magazing just because rewiever couldn't beat one boss :roar:

Purple or grey elixirs restore 20 HP/mana (so just sell them), purple potions boost resistances temporarily, and green are poison (alchemy guide[www.locusinn.com]).

Funny how all these people look for cheese tactics, while you can just (over)level yourself by exploring and doing the subsequent sidequests. The game gets pisseasy this way after lvl 25, without cheese.

Hey I like my cheddar. Also I am talking about the non descript potion. when you hover the mouse over it it just says purple potion but it sells for 1000 (admiring level). I tried clicking on it I ddin't notice anyhting so never used again.. There are others like gray potions and green potions not sure if they are consumable.
