Windows 8 Performance "Patch"

Hi everyone!

I run Windows 8.1 and was having horrible performance issues with this game using Direct3D. Turns out that Windows 8 hates Direct3D/DirectDraw rendering in 16 bit depth. I've come up with a solution for those who, like me, want to have the best experience possible.

All this is, is a batch file that installs a compatibility layer to force the game to run all Direct3D commands in 32bit and disables GDI Hardware Acceleration. You'll get the performance of Software mode, with all the spiffy gfx of Direct3D mode. Hope everyone enjoys!

PS: This is only for Windows 8/8.1, and I have yet to test stability completely but it seems fine.

Edit: This will make the Esc Menu load slower, but it will show up.

If it stutters use "Software Fog" in the options menue. That helps :)

Thank you for this! It makes the mouse cursor much smoother and loading times significantly shorter for me on Windows 11, with the GOG version of Divine Divinity (V1.4A).

IMPORTANT:
With the patch installed, the game crashes at the Council of the Seven chamber when you place the magical balls on their shrines. When you get to that point, save, close the game, run the uninstall.bat file that came with the patch. Then, progress with the game, save, close and install the patch again. I think it's worth it.
Perhaps there are other places where it also crashes, I have not finished the game yet. I think it occurs when it wants to use a video file in a certain way.

Minor issues:
- The intro movie (and probably other pre-rendered cutscenes if there are any) looks glitchy and bad with the patch installed.
- The screenshot associated with each save file becomes a glitchy mess. Thus, loading screens also looks messy.
- The loading screens say something about desktop color depth not set to 18-bit or something.

It didn't make the Esc menu slow for me.
