Divine Divinity

Newbie with questions
Hey everyone! I am new to Divine Divinity, and have some questions. Is there an easy way to pick up items? I have come across a number of items to add to my inventory, but when I try to click and drag them, my character starts walking around. Also, I noticed that holding the alt key shows items on the ground, is there a key that will show things like torches, levers, etc.? And when dragging items into the inventory window, how do you keep the items straight? I mean, it is so easy to accidentally place one item on top of another, how do you keep everything organized so that it is easy to find what you are looking for?

I am having a bit of a time with the skeletons in the catcombs. I want to save my health potions for an emergency, is there a place to heal, aside from going back up to the village and paying for healing?

Collect some chests to store excess loot. There is much less of an issue with overlapping items when there are less items in the inventory.

Try just clicking on the item to pick up, or the tooltips when holding Alt, rather than drag and drop. Alternately, make sure the character moves close enough to the item first, to be able to drag and drop.

There is no way to highlight torches, levers, etc.

You can leave a teleporter pyramid beside a bed to sleep. You can use the cellar it Joram's house, where you first start, or take over an abandoned house with a bed.

Early Starter Tips (NON-Spoiler Version)[forums.larian.com]
I am about to finish mapping the first floor of the catacombs. But I am low on vitality and am out of health potions. There are two places yet to be discovered, I have tried to infiltrate them but there are higher level enemies there and I have had my butt handed to me with both locations, I found the floor tile that takes me to a new floor, but there are a number of baddies there too. I tried to use my pyramid but that takes me to a new room with more fun enemies. I know I am not far into the game, but I could use a little advice about what to do.

Did you loot around town, check back with George for equipment upgrades, etc?
Did you do the quests in town (heal both patients, etc)?

Though the opponents around the second pyramid are relatively strong at that point, it is a small area, so there aren't too many of them to deal with, as long as you survive the initial onslaught.

Until you can build up a supply of potions, you should reserve them for combat, and head back to a bed to heal. You can also use food to top off your health (meat and bread) and mana (chicken).

You can leave Aleroth to level up if you wish, though that is easier with ranged characters than melee (in particular, Poison Weapon helps on a bow). Don't go too far south, though; the orcs to the east, west and north are weaker and in smaller groups than the ones to the south.
Also, don't keep going and forget about the catacombs, or the related quests will complete without you (if you do certain other quests) and you will miss the experience/rewards.

What class are you playing? What are your stats and charcacter level?

I am playing the Warrior class, I am currently at level 4. My stats are: Strength 21, Agility 17, Intelligence 10, and Constitution 12. A few more questions.... Is it possible to head back to town once I am in the pyramid? I went back the way I came, but the portal is not where it was before. I have been using potions primarily for combat. I have seen weapons around the first level of the pyramid, but the "information window" for them is red. If I don't pick them up now, can I come back for them? Also, I have not used my skill points yet, I am indecisive about how much of my character is a warrior and how much I can invest in magical skills too. I did not loot around town, I would go back and explore town if I could, but I seem to be stuck in the catacombs/pyramid. How far can I go out of town and not screw up potential and future quests and rewards?

If you aren't already past there by now, yes, you can return to town after getting the pyramid, and if you don't loot then you can get everything later.

You should just be able to walk back up the way you came, and there is also an exit you can open up into the graveyard. Near where the second teleporter pyramid is, there is a teleporter pad you can use to get up near the entrance to the catacombs.

You can actually go quite far without causing problems. There are several main plot quests that will update Aleroth if you complete them without finishing the Aleroth quests. If you don't forget about Aleroth, you should be fine.
Great! Thanks so much! Sorry for the delay, I have been out of town for the past few days. One more question for now - some of the weapons I have found in the first level of the pyramid are unidentifiable - their name is in red. What do I have to do to be able to see those weapons stats? (Note: I have not used three skill points yet. Not sure if that plays into this situation).
Also, I am really bogged down with tons of books and other items that have brought my character into encumbered status and he is almost overwhelmed with stuff in his backpack. Do you recommend a tactic to store some of this stuff? And how do you recommend I keep track of all of the multitude of books and their contents?

In case you haven't figured these out yet:

1. Unidentified items can be identified at by a merchant. Merchants will have up to three functions: shop, identify, and repair. Not all merchants will have all three, most will just have a shop. Alternatively, there is a skill which allows you to identify items automatically when you hover your mouse over them. The more points you invest, the higher level of item you can identify.

2. What I ended up doing was placing a multitude of chests / barrels in my "base" (first room where there's a bed), and dropping related items in each chest. Keeping track of books is up to you - sort them in chests / barrels in whatever order makes sense. Read them periodically to remind yourself about their content, or keep a list outside the game if that helps. Most of the books are just lore, but a couple of them do give hints regarding future quests and you will find a few skill books along the way as well. (which you only need to use to gain a point in the related skill)
