ATTENTION: THIS IS NOT HARVEST MOON (please read)
Too many people do not know this and I hate seeing people get nostalgia baited by shady/scummy business practices. This is quite literally NOT the Harvest Moon you grew up on.

About 10-11 years ago, Marvelous (the Japanese developers of Harvest Moon) cut business ties with their localization company (Natsume). However, Natsume CONTINUED to develop and manufacture games using the "Harvest Moon" name. I am not entirely sure why this is, I think it may have to do with legal loopholes with how the title was translated over from its original Japanese name (Bokujou Monogatari "Story of Seasons").

Marvelous has continued to develop the "Harvest Moon" games we know as "Story of Seasons" in English localizations.

All "Harvest Moon" games made after Harvest Moon: A New Beginning are developed by Natsume, and the reviews reflect this; most are critical failures garnering a lot of negative reviews.

Of course, personal opinions about whether or not the games manufactured by Natsume are good or not are subjective matters and Im not here to argue with anyone who enjoys them. One thing is for certain, Natsume is a very scummy company that tricks people into thinking they are playing an original Harvest Moon game, when in fact they are not. They abused legal loopholes in order to develop a game that doesn't even belong to them.

Maybe you'd get more sales with a proper PC port?

Not to the point it'd be worthwhile. It's the problem for the smaller companies - they're not going to sell enough to justify investing in the port; one of the reasons the port doesn't sell is because they're not investing in it. Catch-22.

WHY TF LAUNCH A GAME IN A PLATAFORM WHERE THE MAJORITY OF PLAYERS USE MOUSE AND KEYBOARD WITHOUT MOUSE AND KEYBOARD SUPPORT?
Assuming that the majority of PC gamers also possess a gamepad of some sort as well.

I own a gaming PC, a PlayStation, and a Switch. Assuming that Natsume was banking on most players interested in playing this would be familiar with their previous farming sim games and would possess a gamepad already in order to play this game.

Though, I also do agree with you, how many PC gamers who don’t possess a gamepad did they now turn off from the franchise possibly due to not allowing KB/M playability here?

To be fair this game doesn't look as bad as some I have. I think they are learning.

I thought that at the split Natsume was clear why they decided to make their own farming games. To not keep the west out of a farming game. I mean what if Marvelous decided to stop making the games or not bring them here at all?

Fans are always fighting and killing each other on the Internet but I'm pretty sure that probably both companies are shill with each other since Natsume doesn't even release the games on Japan to compete (again, reinforcing their statement to not leave the west without a game).

Also last thing... go away haters, these new Harvest Moon series have enough characters now for Natsume to give us a Ninja Warriors Again type game with these characters!!! Just imagine Doc Junior and the one world farmer girl beating the living crap out of evil robot crops and cows!!!! 😆
A man can dream... someday... lol

Ah, so that's how it is. Thank you for posting this. I was about to open an own topic asking if this was the real Harvest Moon because I had never seen Nintendo games make it to Steam before and was really confused.
So I would say it was up in the air on who was scummy. The only thing Natsume did was to make use of the brand that they have copyright in NA. Marvelous (not Nintendo) chose to make Story of Seasons because they wanted to brake away from the Harvest Moon of the past. Natsume wanted to continue. You can see Marvelous laying the groundwork with the last Harvest Moon game they came out with "A New Beginning". Marvelous decided not to use Natsume for localization but since Natsume held the copyright they start the series Story of Seasons. Personally I feel like Natsume has the better storyline which is more in keeping with the traditional Harvest Moon. I have all the story of seasons games and they have gone from throwing bunches of animals and great graphics at you to distract from no real storyline to revamping the old HM games with better graphics. Furthermore, there are rune factory games on steam and both HM and SoS on steam.

Well, you're not technically wrong in anyway. But older harvest games really haven't aged well. And honestly, Marvelous shouldn't really be that praised in the modern era either. They've been stuck in making games 1 specific for awhile. They're stretched their legs a bit in the 3ds era, but to me have a big problem of adding a bunch of new stuff, without really fleshing them out and making sure everything has depth. So instead you go from 5 systems that are pretty deep to 15 that are immensely shallow.

However, Marvelous with Pioneers of Olive Town did an incredible job.
And then Natsume gets points for trying a lot of new ideas, most of which missed, in One World. But then more points for improving, taking feedback and adjusting for Winds of Anthos.
i knew this isnt harvest moon, but still, its not that bad at all, not good but neither bad, of course SoS wins .

Nothing about this game states its the original game makers. The game isn't a 100x100 map either. Yeah the originals were great for their time but technologies change over the years. I find this game quite adequate. The one thing I truly dislike is not having the male animals required to breed like in the originals. Still WOA is great just because it has a huge map with other towns in it, unlike the original games you required some to connect to a gameboy with your game cube in order to unlock a new town or city. This one has it already programmed so that you dont have to buy another device in order to obtain a new map/city

It's been a good long while since I've enjoyed a Harvest Moon or SoS games. I used to enjoy Rune factory but the latest ones are just... bad and I've never been a fan of star dew which was inspired by HM.

I think the last games I've enjoyed was Frontier and that was because I modded it to remove Runeys.

Harvest Moon BtN was probably peak and Rune Factory 1 & 2 Vanilla.

Maybe I'm just not a fan of the series as much as I thought? lol
