But no, it's not just you. Stardew Valley is the closest recentish game you're gonna find to those older titles. The original designer left Marvelous in 2010 so at this point it's being developed by people with no connection to those older games. I definitely feel you on it, I would love to see more games take more inspiration from those older works. You'd think Stardew would have sent the industry in that direction but I guess not.
Oorah Brother, take care of yourself.
Thanks for your words, brother!
But I do agree with you, Stardew Valley *is* the closest, but I feel like it sent the industry in the more 'updated' direction.
With this game, it feels like it relies too much on a 'storyline', vs 'letting you do what the ♥♥♥♥ you wanna do'.
I think that the SoS for DS spoiled me, tbh. Haha.
I always give natsume a chance only because I feel a little bad that Marvelous dropped them to do in house publishing, with their partner XSeed.
I feel like Natsume is trying to stand out and break away from the standard which is fine. But there are players like you who want that OG experience.
As frustrating as it sounds you may prefer to stick with the OG games possibly the remasters under the Story of Seasons title. Also indie publishers seem to grasp and want to push the OG experience. And some seem to do a brilliant job of it. Coral Island is one of the newer ones.
My first experience with A farm sim was FOMT and still nothing can replace that awesome feeling of learning how to farm. I 100% that game 😅
Needless to say the mainstream publishers have been at it so long I feel like they are trying to draw new a crowd and innovate/ try new things. Right now it’s not working too well for a lot of players. Stardew Valley really gave them a kick in the pants at how to modernize without alienating the original gameplay, hence why so many farming sims have adopted the ‘machine’ mechanic system in their games.
I’m sad to hear this isn’t what you thought. Hopefully some other farm sim whether indie or not old or new scratches that farming itch for you soon. 😊
Thanks for your response, and for the extra details!
It's really good to hear your opinion, and I appreciate it - I'm not saying that this game won't bring new fans to the series, and if I hadn't grown up with it, I would have absolutely loved this game.
But the hand-holding, the mobile farm, Doc Jr., all of these aspects turn me off, yeah?
Haha. It should be fine. I may have an urge to play it one day, but not today!
You sound like me with ooblets. I wanted to like it but meh! but it’s there if I ever want to play it again 😅
of course!
Oh I totally agree with the hand holding. In the newer remasters apparently the animals don’t pass away. 🤷♀️ Doesn’t really simulate life. Mind you I would only ever play up to year 4 or 5 in the original games so they never died. 😅
But even the world seem a little less ‘full’ it falls victim to the open world too much space issue, then they can’t fill it.
I’m enjoying it thus far, but I can agree with it seems more ‘childish’ not the right word but I hope the Intent is clear.
Anyways Happy Gaming! Not sure if your into games like overcooked but this cute game called pizza possum just came out and it looks super fun.
Decided to give this one a second try, and honestly, it isn't bad when you leave the village. Still not sure I like all the emoting, though haha.
