Why does it even matter whether this is real Harvest Moon or not...

...when Story of Season, the "real" Harvest Moon, is just as/or equally bad?

I see all these peeps saying this is not Harvest Moon blah blah, but what is the difference in the end? It's not like the og studio is showing Natsume "how its done". The latest Story of Seasons was mediocre at best, and I am sure it would be no different had Natsume and Marvelous not split up.

So why all the fuzz????

Which latest do you mean? A Wonderful Life? That was just a remake.
The only actual latest new one from them is Pioneers of Olive Town. Which wasn't perfect, but miles better than the stuff Natsume pushed out

think people are just still sore after the quality drop since the breakup. I too was unaware during the time this happened and was sorely disappointed in their newer game around that time. Then I found out the reason...

now for me a game is a game, sure the harvest moon name getting dragged through the mud hurt my childhood memories (personally think they should have dropped the name and went with a diff one). But I still cherish those childhood days. but yeah to get back on track if they make a good game then that's good enough for me, but I'd at least like to see some effort and love put into the game.

This game is the first in a long time that I'm genuinely interested in and it looks like they may have found their footing. 1 world was the first to peak my interest but sadly the reviews sucked and put me off completely.

It doesn't matter, the people who work on Story of Seasons are not the same people who worked on the older Harvest Moons anyway. People come and go in companies and the people who think that being the same company magically makes it better should look at games like Mass Effect, WoW, Final Fantasy, and I could go on. The better Harvest Moon is will only make Story of Seasons work harder to better too. People who want Harvest Moon to be "Bad" are being silly and do not understanding how business works.

Animal Parade is the last HM/SoS game I seriously sunk my teeth into. Ever since then, the quality of all of it fell off a cliff. Then today, I found out Animal Parade was the last game the original guy who started Harvest Moon, worked on, then it all made sense.

The more the merrier. Personally I love that it's been split between two different studios/companies. This game looks like the right step into a new era of higher quality Harvest Moon games.

I agree with OP about not caring about the title "Harvest Moon". The last game they did together, which I believe was A New Beginning was absolute dog sh but... wdym SoS is just equally bad LOL! I loved Olive Town, was so fun and characters were cute

It's up to everyone to decide what they want to play. But Natsume did Marvelous dirty when they parted ways and doubled down by delivering on average titles that were subpar at best. I'd hope they do better now, but if they don't? Tons of great farm/cozy games out there now.

Riding on the coattails of success.
If you start selling a series of books translated and localized to english in one name, then when you can't continue continue publishing them, you start producing your own fanfic to continue the original series it kind of is scummy.
You have people confused on the changes, you have people pissed off on why you are calling something this, and you have those pissed you are using the legacy of something you didn't make to promote your own product.

The situation is such a big deal, even wikipedia separated these "harvest moon" games from story of seasons and the originals due to how confusing and poor taste it was.

If you've really played them all, you'd know exactly why fans of the genre warn people away from the new "Harvest Moon" games. That last one I played on PS4--where you travel around with that mobile farm--nearly broke me.

It's not about quality at this point (though it kinda still is based on the bug reports), it's about not rewarding Natsume for scummy business practises. Namely cashing in on the name by farming Harvest Moon out to unknown mobile game devs and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ out these half-assed mobile ports.
