They really can't think of anything new.
They could make so much more out of the game concept. But instead, they can't think of anything better than remastering one of their biggest hits. Firefly is like one of those bands that had a big hit decades ago and have been performing everywhere ever since to play that one hit. Even at the opening of a furniture store. - What a pity for the wasted potential.

well, they are making something brand new as we speek, this definitive edition is made by a second team within firefly, the main team is working on the next stronghold game which will be made using unreal engine 5.

Umm... you didn't actually read anything about it, did you? It's written on store page there's a new 14-mission campaign in Definitive Edition!
Go troll yourself into the mirror.

And you didn't read what he said at all. What he meant by "new" wasn't "new missions".

That's a NEW CONTENT. So it definitely is better than just "remastering one of their biggest hits".
As for that "they could make so much more out of the game concept" - that's what new games are for. Someone already mentioned they work on new Stronghold in Unreal Engine 5. There was also Stronghold: Warlords.

EDIT: Okay... new day, refreshed mind. I see now what he meant. My apologies

Well, my optimism that Firefly will develop the series in a contemporary way after all these years is not too high.

Stronghold Warlords is a very cool game with lots of new stuff packed into it, but there has been a cult of angry complainers in a frenzy saying the game is too different from the original Stronghold. Now Firefly will upgrade the original SH, and the same vultures are here complaining again. They need to complain and will brook no solution.

Some people just want to see the world burn.

This looks more like a medieval Foxhole rather than a new Stronghold.

Just as one swallow does not make a summer, a modern graphics engine does not make a contemporary game. Besides, there is only talk in the linked video, but nothing is shown. It should be common knowledge by now that every development studio can talk a lot when the day is long. As long as they only build castles in the air (pun intended) and don't even show real gameplay, it's better to remain skeptical.
In my humble opinion, Firefly lacks the resources, talented staff and/or bright ideas to make Stronghold a real hit again. Instead, the series is degenerating more and more into an anachronism. - And yes, I am aware that this is a hot take.

Incidentally, I still wonder why, in all these years, no other development studio has ever taken up the concept/idea and made their own game out of it. Not necessarily from an American developer studio, after all they are culturally different, but from one of the numerous European (AA) studios.
This is particularly surprising in the case of the German development studios. After all, we Germans love not only our (building) strategy games (Anno, The Settlers), but also our historical fortresses and have more than enough of them standing around in the country #1. And we have some game development studios that could handle such a project.

well, gameplay will be shown when the development is far enough to do so, at the time they made that announcement it was way too early for that, especially since switching to a new engine also means that they have to tailor the engine to thair needs for the game they make first and have to rebuild certain systems they need for the game first.

and a new engine also has the potential of taking away previouse limitations and performance problems, especially performance problems which severely held back stronghold crusader 2 for example

skepticism is fair enough though.

Agreed : it's "just adding a few things to a super old game", and quite a few stronghold games altogether didn't hit a soft spot with me.
Firefly ain't a legendary genius rock star among gamemakers.

Disagreed : if the 1st one (at least with "Crusader" and "2", in my heart) is awesome, and I really don't mind see Firefly working back on them from time to time, and send money their way for doing so.

Nobody can force me to buy the stronghold games I don't like, alas. xD
And nobody can prevent me from buying again those I love! xD

The rest will be history : may Firefly do its deed, and some will love and answer the call, and some won't, so goes the video games war!
