It's a metaphor. As a software engineer, I can tell you that it could be easy, but it could also be really hard. For a 20-year-old game, I would assume that they haven't thought about modularity at all, and it would take a lot of work to port features. But again. None of us have access to the sources, so we just have to trust what Firefly tells us. But people here on the forums are trying to downplay it. As some people wrote: "Just copy the code". If it were that easy, they would probably do it. There's a reason behind this decision, and they've been very transparent about it.
So when I wrote, "You're buying a diesel" that's the DE. They told you it's a diesel and the features it has and that it's explicitly not an electric. And then people get mad about a diesel not having an electric engine. That's just wrong.
As a old player of stronghold, it been a long time i have not made a custom skirmish. The content itself is already fine enough. Skirmish is fun when you are 10 yo.
