If IGN said there's no permadeath, it probably means:
A. They didn't get far enough to clear the game and find out.
B. They were playing a dev build which only allowed them access up to a certain point.
The enemy doesn't get many units either, so there's that. Like I said, if there IS a permadeath feature, it's probably only unlocked AFTER you clear the game since most games don't give that feature to players right off the bat any more. Plus, it's not as if permadeath has ever stopped games from screwing you out of clears before in the past, lol.
It's not their fault if you went into the campaign with 12 and now you're down to 5. Guess you're sh*t out of luck and you'll have to restart or keep pushing with what you have ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I have no idea how the difficulty is for this game though, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
EDIT: It's not gonna make or break the game for me though. Just throwing that out there. I'm still excited to try it out and play it for a bit before Octopath Traveler 2 drops 2 days later.
It seems that youre missing something. Its completely normal for people to wonder if it has permadeath as an option right from the start, though. The director of this game is well-known since he made some Fire Emblem games. And Fire Emblem never stopped giving you that option from the beginning.
Actually I think he has a point. The game seems to have only 10 characters. Which is WAY less then in a typical FE. And I think that's rather important because in a FE even if a few of your characters die there's still generally plenty that you can replace them with as your run goes on. But with only 10 characters your run would likely become unfinishable rather quickly in a permadeath mode.
