Free to play?
Its not clean yet if this is free to play or not. (in official trailer or steam page is not mentioned something about that) But i guess if this kind game is by payment will badly fail in sales so..

Rematch's a premium game, you'll need to purchase it to play it. Thank you for your support!

Wouldn't it be better to reach a bigger playerbase to make it Free to play and then add skins and stuff for revenue like in rocket league? Cause if the game doesn't blow up and it costs lets say 20€ the game will dwindle down players much quicker.

Yeah same, the game looks interesting as someone who plays Rocket league and likes football.
So considering this game isn't some AAA game with a crazy budget and marketing I feel like its going to be pretty hard to have a very big playerbase if the game isn't F2P and even worse if its something like 30-40€ because it is a niche market, if people wanna play Football games there's always FIFA and PES, so this is kind of like a middle ground between something like Rocket league(which is already popular and F2P) and street football which is I would say a niche.

Do remember that Rocket League first released in 2015 for 20 € and it was a success long before it went f2p.

I know rocket league had a price on release but also you have to take into consideration that back in 2015 that was a very innovative concept of a game(and it had blown up in popularity cause of it and its a worrying question if rematch will explode in popularity or dwindle out), however now that its F2P it has even more drastically increased its playerbase.

So you really have to ask will this game be innovative and good enough to make for example RL players open their wallets and spend 20-30€ whatever the cost is on a potentially worse game than the one they already play which is free.
I'd be glad if this game is great and popular I already applied for the beta and it doesn't matter if it costs lets say 40 bucks but that's the risk, many games nowadays hit 10-20k players on release and in a matter of weeks that number can drop below 1000 if the game just isn't captivating enough or has issues and then it dies out.

On the other hand F2P games hit 100s of thousands of players usually and retain their playerbase for way longer especially multiplayer games such as this one.
So as I said its a niche marketplace and genre for a game like this, I can't really name a single friend that would cash out 30€ for this kinda game and I hang out with people who like football games, but if it was F2P then I could definitely ask a couple friends to download it and try it out.

You have to remember that it was on playstation free games month the day it was released. So it got a big audience purely because it was free in its first month and everybody grabbed it.

now really? i dunno chief but this game looks like prime F2P squad up and chill type of game

This game will not last long if it's not f2p imo. You cant compare it to RL because the times were different back then, the f2p model wasnt as widespread as it is today. Nowadays all mp competitive games have gone f2p, and theres plenty of good ones to choose from. So why would people spend 20-30$ to play this instead?

?
You can get it day 1 either way doesnt matter whether it is F2P or 30€ tf are you talking about?
And what kind of monetization are you expecting out of a Rocket league clone with humans instead of cars? This isnt an MMORPG or Cod, the most we will see is skins and emotes so this is a non-issue.

No me llamo Dec 26, 2024 @ 8:00am
great move from developers,,,dont make the same mistakes that rocket league did by going free to play, the smurf and boost party problem is insanely bad,,,

I hate that this is probably true. A competitive game not being F2P literally makes me more interested in it, but I'm in the minority for that. I know online games need to include some form of microtransactions (or a subscription fee, but that's a huge turn-off to a lot of people including myself) to stay alive, but when the base game costs money, they tend not to be nearly as predatory about it. Look at how Overwatch 1 was compared to Overwatch 2. Or for a more recent example, look at Rivals of Aether 2 compared to Multiversus.
