I went through that optional path after getting the keycard that leads you into one of those upper halls where you fight the fluorescent dudes and eventually leads to a control room, but there was nothing at all there. No detective board clues, no other key items, nothing. I don't want to know where the key items or anything are, I'm just confused of the purpose of this area.

You should come back to that room after getting a detective board item from one of the future hideouts.

Don't attack the DJ guy wearing glasses, if you leave him alone you can talk to him. Come back after discovering something in a later level and he'll give you an item. Honestly you'll probably want to google it, it would be hard to figure it out on your own.

PC of the boss on 4th level
Then the DJ in that control room
Then PC again
Then you get the key, that opens either lock on the door on the 3rd level or box on the 2nd one, I am not sure
