Mandarin vs Cantonese dub?

already played the game when it first came out in english and i thought itd be interesting to get give it a go in the proper language but I can't decide which of the two options to pick. I mostly care about the quality of the voice acting and if the region the story takes place in would speak one or the other. Any recommendations?

TLDR mandarin is the canon language, but cantonese is the canon language, but mandarin is the canon language and so on

For westerners who can't speak or understand either language, either one is fine. For those who speak one or the other, naturally the one you speak is the one you'll appreciate the most. Otherwise, Mandarin sounds more flowing/natural, Cantonese is more guttural/rough sounding, so pick the one you like.
